About Me

I am 37 years old, male Kenyan citizen. I am a Social Entrepreneur with strong social and economic ties to the local community of Mbita, Kenya through my engagement in basic education, poverty reduction and health-related initiatives.

I went through my early education in hardship conditions as my parents were very poor and my mother was doing menial jobs to raise funds to support the family. However, with determination and focus, I succeeded. I am a holder of Diploma in Information Technology, Associate Degree of Arts in Christian Studies, Associate Degree of Arts in Theology, Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theology and am pursuing a Masters Degree in Public Administration.

In my free time, I do actively participate in community service, counsel and advise youths and widows on entrepreneurship ventures that could enable them get income to support their families.

Mbita is a rural area, and the region is wet and dry throughout the year with main economic activity being fishing and tertiary trades. Most of the children do not go to school and would prefer fishing and when they reach their teen-hood, they engage in sex for pay activities in the overpopulated fish-landing beaches in the shores of Lake Victoria.

My Business

I am currently engaged in provision of quality early childhood education and learning activities in Mbita community. The school is built on social enterprise model with the 50% of the net profit realized used to pay the school 30 total orphans and destitute children enrolled at Hope School.

The school business is growing but I lack financial ability to equip the school with basic teaching resources to enhance learning, I am therefore looking for an investor/lender to loan me a total of KES 246,000 to install solar-powered pump for clean, drinkable water for use at school, purchase out-door games equipment, classroom charts and instructional books. This money will be repayable on a weekly basis.

Loan Proposal

With the Loan of Ksh 56,914, I will buy 90 PVC chairs for the early childhood development and education (ECDE) learners at a cost of Ksh 400 each and the remaining Ksh 20,914 will be used to buy books, chalks, pens, crayons, charts and diagrams for the children learning purposes.

The new portable PVC chairs will enable children learn in a very conducive environment and will enhance their concentration on studies and attract them in school work. The increased income will be used to buy food (Lunch) for teachers and ten orphaned children who relies on school for support. The new chairs will enable the school attract more fee paying students and increase the school monthly income by 35%. The increased revenue will be used to support school lunch/food scheme for the orphaned children.

Thanks for the update before Kennedy. I hope things have been getting a little easier...

If it would help, Zidisha staff can likely lower your repayment amount, & restructure your loan so you can just pick it up from here? Just pop them a msg & ask for some help :-) www.zidisha.org/forum-threa...

I'm sure most people won't mind if you kept the lowered repayment amount for longer, if it helps :-)

Wishing you all the best, Emma from Australia.

      Hi Joost,

The school is not doing well but we remain optimistic to recover. The catastrophes really affected us. I would like to link up with you and apply for funding from a Netherlands-based charity that could help our school in construction of a classroom and water tank. Kindly e-mail me: [email protected]

Dear Lenders and Partners at ZIDISHA. Our school has been really affected and we have lost (died) two students from preventable diseases..! Cholera. It has been sad indeed. We have high hopes that we will resume our weekly repayments next week (Mid July). We are grateful for your support, care and understanding.
