My name is Catherine Wainaina, and I come from Nakuru but was born and raised in Kiambu County. I went to Kamirithu Primary School, joined high school in Kabokiek Girls, and then went to Polytechnic and did a Beauty Course for 6 months after I moved to Nakuru to help my sister, as she had delivered. While in Nakuru, I used to go to a salon to do my hair, and my friendship with the salon owner started to grow. Luckily, after some time, I talked to her about giving me a job and she offered it without hesitation. I worked with her for a year and managed to save some cash, and then decided to start a salon of my own in a different estate where I now live after moving from my sister's place.
I like singing, socializing, and swimming. I have a daughter whom I delivered last year and would like to teach her beauty when she grows up. I like traveling, too, and during Christmas holiday, I went home to Kiambu County, to a place called Limuru. I met a former classmate with whom I talked extensively, and she told me about Zidisha. I visited her home, and to my surprise, I saw how she had planted carrots, which is amazing, and this made me want to do farming, too, as my mother has a piece of land which she doesn't utilize to its maximum, due to her age. So, I thought if I could raise some cash alongside some I already have saved, we could do something together.
I own a beauty shop where I do manicures, pedicures, facials, massages, hairdressing, shaving, and selling of beauty products. Everybody wants to look beautiful, so my services are always in demand by campus students, married working-class ladies, children, etc. They all visit me for the good service. I chose this business due to my passion for it and the growth in female population in my country, as well as beauty products being affordable and readily available. I make a profit of 250 to 350 USD in a good business month; however, when schools are on holiday, I make up to 500 USD. I use the money to buy products for my shop, pay the shop rent, pay my house rent, feed my daughter, and generally provide for our basic needs. I also send some money for my mother back in the village.
Hello, lenders! I completed my previous loan and now I have a chance to take out another Zidisha loan. Thank you so much for the previous loan. It enabled me to do farming back in the village, and gave my mum something productive to do, as before she didn't have anything like this to do. The crops are a month old and are doing great. Now, I would like to renovate my salon and make it to be one of the first-class salons in my estate. Please help me raise this loan of $225 USD which I will use to buy beauty products and also to make improvements to my salon, as follows:
Supplies: $195
Painting Services: $30
Total: $225
The improvements will attract more customers and also will enable me to be able to increase the fees for my salon services, and some of the extra profits will be used to support my farm after the harvesting time.
