My name is Esther Akeyo. I come from a family of 6 members: my parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother. I was brought up in Lower Nyakach and later Mbita in the slums of Kong'eche where I live to date. I dropped from school in class seven due to teenage pregnancy and I didn't continue with education.
Having dropped from school, I got married and I was not lucky to live with my husband as he died in a lake accident when we had just gotten married. I was left a widow at a very young age with two kids! I am currently running a dry fish sale kiosk, which I started in 2011 after having been employed in the Fish processing industry for seven years as a casual labourer with meager income. I mainly deal with omena [small fish]. Most of my products I get from Fishermen direct, like Tilapia and Nile Perch.
The goods I offer are fish, the sun dried fish which I buy from fishermen and dry myself. The demand for fish is high, since it is food that people consume on a daily basis. My clients prefer me because I always give them fresh quality fish and of good measure, and I treat them with good customer service. The business is profitable, since it is food that is bought daily and I get it at a reasonable amount from the fishermen: there is no intermediary between me and the fishermen. I also sell at a cheaper price compared to my competitors. I also sell in wholesale price to other sellers.
The 1st Loan of KES 9,134 I will use to buy 60 Kgs of fresh of omena, dry them up and re-sale them at a very good price. I project my profit increasing by 20%. from the increase of sales and supply, I will be able to save and repay the loan on time as I take my children to school and meet the food costs of my family. Thanks alot to ZIDISHA Lenders for having considered my loan bid.
