I am Dorah Atieno, a mother of six children. I live in Milimani Village, Kasgunga Ward shores of lake Victoria, Mbita, Kenya. I was born and raised up in a very loving, disciplined family. My father was a strict disciplinarian, he was a fisherman and my mother was a peasant farmer with deep love for her children.
I started primary school at the age of 7 and did not manage my 8th grade due to early marriage. I was married at the age of 15 as the 1st wife to my husband who later on inherited 2 other women as per Luo customs and traditions. Since my husband had a limited income with a very big family to care of, I decided to venture into sale of fresh on farm produce like tomatoes, onions, avocadoe, green vegetables (kales, cabbages and spinach)and cereals. I operate a grocery stall in Mbita market.
I started the business having seen an opportunity to make money in selling a variety of groceries to many people who are residing in Mbita township. The money I get from my business I use to pay my children's education and buy food for the family besides other household obligations.
My hobbies are singing , visiting the sick and working together in community service.
I operate a grocery stall in Mbita Market. I sell fresh fruits, on-farm produce like tomatoes and vegetables. The groceries are in high demand in Mbita township and many households depends on my fresh food supplies. I source my grocery direct from farmers and fishermen who sell them to me at wholesale price and I also find them fresh to reach the customers fresh.customers find my stall a convenient place to get all the groceries they require more so in the evening when a majority of them are from work and want to cook. I make profit of between USD 75 to USD 100 on a monthly basis.
The area is strategic and the business can do well if I get more money to buy more food items for re-sell at a fairly competitive prices with a good profit margin. I plan to use the loan from Zidisha to get more fresh produce and get them directly for the farms to make maximum profit.my customers like my stall as they can get all that they want for their kitchen in terms of vegetables
I need a loan of US$100 to be used as follows:
-U$30 to be used for purchase of green vegetables (sukuma wiki/kale).
-US$30; to be used for purchase of two trays of tomatoes of which I will sell in one week and expect a good profit.
-US$40; I will use to buy 1 sack of potatoes, 1 sack of onions, which i will sell for the whole one months expecting US$80 in return.
-US$10; I will use to buy garlic, orange, dania and bananas in small portion enough to sell daily.
-US$10; I will buy one sack of charcoal for sale.
As you can see lending me means a lot. You will be helping my customers to get these products whenever they need arise and i will be getting profit that will improve my living standard.
Once i manage this so well i will be expecting around profit of KES 10,000 as long as things are well.I will be managing my finances well and repay my loan as well with no problem.
