About Me

I am Jorim Sumba Okach, a Kenyan citizen aged 64 years old. I am the last born in a family of 5 (3 girls and 2 boys). I was brought up in a humble background with lots of life challenges pertaining to access to basic needs and education. Both my parents have died. My father was a cobbler and my mother was a peasant farmer and I learn't crop and tree rendering and environmental conservation from her during farm activities that she made a mandatory for her children.

I went through my education in Government funded schools and completed High School and joined a Tertiary College to study Environmental Management in which I graduated with a Certificate in 1978. I was employed with Government of Kenya as a Forester between 1978 upto 2005.

I got married, in 1977 and since my wife was unemployed, I taught her tree nursery and management, which she did until I retired from the Public Service to join her in the business. We are both doing the tree nursery business now as a family venture. I love beautification of environment (landscaping) and improving forest cover in order to combat climate change.

I like watching football matches and visiting friends.

My Business

I started tree nursery business in 1979, the business was managed on a very small scale with my wife till the year 2005 when I joined her in the business. Since then the business has been doing well indeed. I have built a network of reliable clients that seeks my services.

Basically I focus myself in provision of seedlings of different varieties for afforestation and landscaping to various sectors including local public primary schools and churches. During the rainy seasons I normally go round to asses the progress of my goods at various places

From my tree nursery I sell upto 700 trees average per day . This amounts to a monthly income of KES 25,000. I have many customers because I have the best of what they need, people like indigenous trees, I strive to provide the seedlings for them. I water the seedlings with the water I pump directly from Lake Victoria . The business is doing well though capital is needed to expand it in order to serve the ever-growing clients base.

Loan Proposal

I am seeking a loan of KES 9,134 to enable me purchase the following items;
-Irrigation horse pipes =US$20
-Seedlings = US$40
-Pesticides and insecticides =US$20
-Fertilizers =US$10
-Seedling Papers =$10

The ZIDISHA loan will enable me to expand on my business as well as creating employment to unemployed youths in my village. With improved and quality production of indigenous tree seedlings. my business will rapidly grow.

Repaying the loan will be easy for me because in the same piece of land, I plant tomatoes and onions which I harvest and sell to get surplus income. The income from the business will support the education of the 4 grandchildren I am living after the death of their parents. Thanks alot to ZIDISHA lenders for loaning.
