I am 26 years old, married with two children.I am a business lady and owner of Emmy Fresh Fruits at Sienga Market. I finished high school with a D + and could not join college due to lack of finances. I worked in the informal sector selling milk, mandazi, chapati, rice, tea to people for one year so that I can get money to make a living. I was able to save funds to start my new business.I gained a lot of courage because I knew this will help me a lot to earn a living as I take care of my family.
My Rusinga Island community has unique features as we enjoy fresh air from the Lake Victoria that we live on the shores and also we get more fun as we take a walk on Ligongo hills. My children one would like to be a teacher while the other would like to be a nurse when they grow up.
During my free time I love watching movies, reading story books and playing ball games with my children. I also read magazines, newspapers, business documentaries.I have come from very far, from one time being employed as an househelp. After the death of my parents, my grandmother was the one who took care of me and took me to school and she made me what I am now.
My business is of selling all types of fish i.e. omena, tilapia, nile perch etc. There is high demand for fish in my area because a lot of people like eating fish than buying meat which is quite expensive than fish. With the income from my business I am able to pay fees for my children in school and I also plant maize and beans which helps me a lot in meeting family food needs. The fish I sell especially the powder and dust I use to give to my chicken as they are good and have nutrients.I have kept local chicken as they are resistant to many diseases as compared to the hybrid ones.
My business depends on the sun to preserve the fresh fish for selling in the evening when the prices are fairly good and many people are buying food for dinner. I am seeking a loan of KES 24,096 to buy solar power-cooler box to enable me preserve fresh fish for re-selling in the evening. This equipment will facilitate my business and I project a profit increment of 60% in the 1st month of operation. I want to thank ZIDISHA lenders for having taken confidence in my business. I will repay the loan in time and strive to access more funds in future from ZIDISHA.
