About Me

I am Veryana Achieng', 25 years of age. I am married and our marriage is blessed with two children (1 boy and 1 daughter). Am the 5th born in a family of 6. Grew up in a rural set up hence adhered to the hard times and tough conditions but I thank God I made it through. Attended primary education in my rural village of Ngere in Kisumu County hence started having a keen interest in owning up my own business in future.

I did not continue with my education after sitting for my primary education final examinations in 2006. I got married and since my husband was unemployed, we had a good opportunity to start an income generating activity that could financially support our young family. This is what led us to start small-scale poultry keeping and we have done it on a relatively small scale but on a sustainable basis to date.

My hobby is watching netball and visiting the needy in orphanages and hospitals whenever am free.

My Business

I am doing poultry rearing (indigenous chickens for meat and eggs laying). The business has been facing a series of challenges due to chicken sicknesses and lack of chicken vaccinations. I am seeking a low interest loans to enable expand my business and do a profitable venture as there's a huge demand of eggs in my Mbita community as this is a fishing community and eggs are in high demand.

My eyes are still set on my long-term goal of being one of the major egg producers in my locality. I will certainly not be able to realise this goal without continuing to expand my business. I now have 50 chicks that I bought and have started to lay eggs that I supply to local hotels and other establishments with a good return. It is for this reason that I want to expand my business further to meet demand for eggs that I know for sure will still grow.

I now wish to improve my old dilapidated chicken house in which I will be able to house a big number of layers. This is with the aim of realizing my long-term goal of being one of the major egg producers in my locality.

Loan Proposal

I am seeking a loan of KES 9,653 to enable me buy 50 indigenous to keep for re-selling. KES 2,500 will be used to improve my poultry housing structure for my chicken so as to create more space since I am expecting young chicks soon from the incubator. Increase in my poultry stock also calls for availability of more feeds. I will therefore use the balance cash to restock feeds for my young and old chicken. This will be a security and guarantee to realizing the vision I have for my poultry farming.
