I am George Omondi Agola, I was born in 1977 in the rural village of Kombe in Kasgunga Ward, Homa Bay County in the republic of Kenya. I was the 6th born among 8 siblings. I went through my primary education in public funded school and due to lack of school fee, I did not proceed to High School but opted to undergo a motor vehicle driving course since my parents were unable to raise the high school fee.
Upon completion of my driving course, getting employment was not possible so I decided to venture into small-scale, hand irrigated horticultural farm in a leased land adjacent to the shores of Lake Victoria to enable me earn a livelihood for my family.
I went through early life in hardship.
I got married at the age of 23 and our marriage has been blessed with four children. The 1st born is in class seven and the last born in pre-school.
I come from fishing community that lives in the shores of Lake Victoria, men are fishermen while women are mainly fish mongers.
I love watching boat racing ,swimming, and meeting new people.
I am involved in organic farming practice in my small-scale horticultural food farm in Mbita where I grow onions, tomatoes, kales, vegetables and maize for both my family consumption and surplus for sale. I started this business two years ago, the business has been doing so well and I have started to get a very good and reliable clients base.
My farm is multi-purpose as I keep a small indigenous tree nursery that I tender trees and seedlings of different varieties for afforestation and landscaping to various sectors including local public primary schools and churches. During the rainy seasons I normally go round to asses the progress of my goods at various places
From my farm, I harvest upto 130pcs of tomatoes on average per day . This amounts to a monthly income of KES 15,000. I have many customers because I have the best of what they need. I put a lot of effort in my work, I do sell non-GMO foods which are in great demand. I will repay the loan in good time and access more loans from ZIDISHA lenders.
In the May- July rainy and planting season, I need a loan of KES 41,917 to purchase seedlings like; kale, tomatoes, sweet potatoes and maize for planting. I will also buy farm tools like rake, jembe, wheel barrow and assorted seedlings to enable me plant fruits and flowers for sale. I look forward to getting a second loan funds from ZIDISHA to enable me meet the demands of the clients.
