I live in Bamburi Kiembeni and worked as a secretary at Mombasa hospital (private sector) in Dr. Kibwana's clinic. I decided to start my own business as a poultry farmer. I do the farming in my compound. I rare 500 chicken at an interval of three weeks. (I mainly deal with broilers). I have a family of three. (1 – College level, 1 –secondary level, 1 – primary level) Through this business I pay school fees for my three children and I plastered my house as well as cater for general house hold needs.
I supply the chicken to several hotels and restaurants around Mombasa. They includes; Pwani Paradise Hotel (Nyali), Island Breeze (Mombasa CBD), Shanny Restaurant (Food court) Mombasa CBD and local businessmen and residents within Bamburi. I sell one chicken @400 to the restaurant and local businessmen and residents @350/=. I buy one chick @60/=, purchase feeds of 50kg starter @3750/= and finisher of 50kg @3250/=. 500chicks consume around 25bags (10starters & 15finisher). Though there are a number of farmers in this field, most of them do this farming seasonally mainly on festive seasons e.g. Christmas, Easter. What make me maintain my customer is the constant supply of chicken through out the year.
I want to increase the number of stock I rare and feeds also so that I get a quick market and potential customers so that I can be able to meet my day to day needs in his economy of today
With the loan I also will be able to clear school fees arrears for my children from the profit gained
Also the loan profit after my sales will enable me furnsh
my incomplete house by putting tiles and painting it and also restructurinv my the chickens house which sometimes does leack due to heavy rains
