About Me

My name is Love Tosu, from the Volta Region of Ghana. I am a widow with three children. I am a fashion designer and at the same time I make jewelries with locally made beads. I sew different types of clothes for both men and women an sometimes I also send some of my goods to Trade fairs both in Ghana and other African countries where I make lots of sales. My passion is to add value to the locally made African beads. In achieving this, I started weaving gold and silver plated copper wire with the locally made beads to make necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. As a single parent, this is the business I use to take care of my three children. Two of my children are in the university and the last one is in stage six.

My Business

I have a great passion in adding value to our locally made African beads. For this reason I currently weave gold and silver plated copper wire with our locally made African beads to make necklaces, earrings and bracelets. This value I added to the beads has made them useful in all occasions in Ghana. I sell these products at trade fairs both in Ghana and some few African countries. Some people also give me huge orders of jewelries when having occasions like weddings, engagements, parties, naming ceremonies, funerals, festivals, and the like. . My orders from my clients have increased now so with this loan I will be able to do more jewelry and also recruit more youth into studying the profession. This will create jobs for the youth as well.

Loan Proposal

I weave gold and silver plated copper wire with or locally made African beads to make necklaces, earrings and bracelets because of the great passion I have in adding value to our locally made African beads. The value i have added to these beads make them fit in every occasion in Ghana and other countries. The orders from my clients are increasing as the days go by because of the approaching Christmas celebration. With this loan I will be able to buy more materials to do more jewels in order to meet the demand of my clients. When I am able to meet their demands my relationship with them will also last. Not only that, but this will also in turn create jobs for the youth around.

    Dear lenders,
I would love to reschedule my loan repayment because of the financial load. I have to pay the school fess of my two daughters alone. This has really drained me financially. I wish to readjust my loan repayment so that I would be on time in repaying. I greatly apologize for any inconvenience caused by my late repayment.
    Thank you.

    Dear Lenders,

I met Love recently at her home in Kpone, a neighborhood whose name I will probably never learn to properly pronounce, near Tema. She heard about Zidisha from her brother Benjamin last year and has been using loans to supplement her work with beaded jewelry.

Love’s designs incorporate a variety of influences – putting a modern and cosmopolitan twist on traditional African designs. She sources her beads and materials from as far as Nigeria, the Czech Republic, and China, but makes sure to feature traditional Ghanaian beads (like the ones on the bracelets, pictured) in every piece. She says her customers want to wear jewelry that feels modern and at home in the city but that recalls their heritage and, to stay ahead of trends, she gets inspiration online. Her most recent work involves twisting wire from China around African beads in intricate patterns (see images of necklaces).

Love has overcome significant challenges since her husband passed away nine years ago. Suddenly she needed to find a way to support three children as a single mother. So although she had a degree in fashion and worked as a seamstress, she branched out to incorporate and then focus on beadwork. Now the whole, artistically talented family gets involved. Her older children, 23 and 20, have started beadwork themselves. And her youngest daughter, 11-year-old Jasmine, often draws designs that they then create. (You can see some of her other drawings below.)
Zidisha has afforded Love the opportunity to purchase stocks of materials for her designs. Most of her work is made to order and often purchased on credit, with customers paying at the end of the month when they receive their salary. So having the ability to buy extra materials in advance has been a great help to Love’s business as she is putting her youngest child through school.

I know she is incredibly thankful for the support she has received from her lenders and looks forward to growing her business. I recently returned to Tema and was excited to get to visit Love again and purchase some jewelry for myself and family. I also have to credit “Mama Love’s” house as the first place I tried sobolo – a sweet and refreshing drink made with bissap leaves, water, and ginger.

Anyway, Love, thank you so much for taking the time to meet with me! It was a pleasure to meet you and Jasmine.

    Thank you,

    Taylor

Sales of the hand crafted beads have reduced now because the festive seasons (christmas and new year celebrations) are over. Due to this I would like to reschedule my loan payment to GHC20 per week so that I can be on time in repayment. Thank you Zidisha, and lenders. I am grateful.

Notwithstanding, I am very grateful for all your outstanding help and encouragement through my times of difficulties. Dear Lenders,

I just wanted to let you know that one of Love's contacts has informed us that she has recently been having some health problems that has made repaying her loan on time rather difficult. We appreciate your patience and understanding and will let you know if we receive any updates.

    Thank you,
    Taylor, Zidisha Team

i humbly ask the great team of zidisha to consider this request of mine to reschedule the payment of this current loan i took, i have been late with my weekly payments and this is as a result of the cost of the materials i estimated, instead if the earlier price i had it was increased to another higher price and it really disturbed me ,i have done the possible best in my power to be able to raise my business by careful thinking smart work, i will want the loan to be resheduled to suit the current situation i find myself. finally i beseech the authorities here to kindly let my default affect my credit limit since i will need extra cash to be able to buy more materials to aid my work. i hope my humble request be accepted in good fate
