About Me

I am Jane Wangari Nbembei, born on Christmas day of the year 1980 in Nyeri county. Born in a family of four, two boys and two girls. The last born died in the 2004.

Our childhood had a lot of challenges because our parents separated and our father left us under the care of our mother. And since she could not afford to pay for our education, she took the three of us in a children's home. Our young brother remained with her because he was too young to be left in a home.

In that home, we underwent through a lot of challenges because the funds that were supposed to benefit the needy children ended up in pockets of a few individuals. But when the donors were coming to visit, we were given new clothes and new beddings as a cover up. Life was difficult, but all the same we managed to go through schooling up to grade 8.

I am married and we have four children, two in high school and one in primary and the last one has not joined school yet. My husband bought me a dairy cow so that I can manage it to assist us with some expenses. Since I got it, I have learned a lot about dairy cows. When free, I find more satisfaction in at least helping even one person, maybe with some work or even advice on what I know.

My Business

Dairy business is very challenging, especially during the dry season. It is the first dry season I have the cow and I was not well prepared for it. The production has dropped drastically because I don't have enough hay. Milk production has come down up to four liters a day from what I used to get: before the drought was seven liters a day. Milk is always in great demand, especially in the dry season, and we fetch a good price.

A liter goes for Kshs. 50, so four liters gets kshs. 200, and the cost that I use per day is kshs. 150.

If I happen to get funded, I can channel the whole amount into buying hay because if I do it in bulk, I will get a cheaper deal which will increase my profit.

Loan Proposal

Am planning to adding more stock to my eggs business which needs a boost. Am planning to buy 52 trays of eggs at a cost of USD 100. This will help me realise a profit of USD 26 per sale and continue ploughing the profit back into the business. This will help in improving my business which in turn assist me in taking care of my children education.

My Business

I started chicken eggs business after my Dairy Cow was running at a loss. This business is good because I also have some chickens that am raising and when they start laying am planning to grow this business.

On average I am able to sell 30 trays of eggs per week therefore making a profit of USD 15 per week. Am using this profit to help buy for my children some things they require in school and cultivate the rest into the business. am planning with time to grow this business and start selling eggs in a whole sale in other towns apart from the one we are in.

Am planning when this business grows to in co-operate it with raising chicken so that I can sell eggs from my own butch which will maximize the profit. Hope to grow step by step with Zidisha in this journey.
