About Me

My name is Dorcas Afrane. I was born on July 31st, 1977 in Takoradi in the western region of Ghana. I was born into a family of 10 including my parents. I started school when I was 6 years old, but my education was not that smooth because my health was a challenge. As a result of the large family size, I opted for vocational school after completing my basic education.

In 1996, I had a chance to visit my uncle in Nigeria. That short visit turned into almost a decade and half. It was in Nigeria that I dreamt of starting a pastry business, and I started making plantain chips in Nigeria. I returned to Ghana after 14 years in Nigeria.

My Business

Upon my return from Nigeria, I researched to find a good business idea. One thing led to the other, and I determined that a business making plantain chips could flourish here.

So far business has been good. My only challenge is that I need money to expand the business to meet higher demand from my clients.

This a summary of my current weekly expenditures:
- Cooking oil: $28.00
- LPG (gas): $30.00
- Plantains: $90.00
- Polythene (packaging): $13.00
- Transportation: $13.00
-- Total: $180.00, of which I am able to earn $52.00 in a week as profit.

Loan Proposal

My business grows on the ability to attract and keep clients. Selling plantain chips is very lucrative in Sunyani. I wish to apply for a loan of $800.00 to meet demand from my clients. The market is growing for plantain chips, and I believe I am in a good spot to maximise my market share. With this loan, I will be able to produce 4x my current capacity and earn $150.00 per week. I will use the money to buy more plantains, cooking oil, LPG (gas), and polythene packaging. My weekly expenses and income will double with this loan.

Here is a possible summary of my weekly expenses:
- Cooking oil: $40.00
- LPG (petroleum gas): $50.00
- Plantain: $190.00
- Polythene (packaging): $20.00
- Transportation: $15.00,
- Total: $315.00, of which I expect to earn $150 a week as profit

I believe the lenders of Zidisha will help me fulfill my dreams and help increase my family's living standard. Thank you!
