I am Betty Muge. After completion of my secondary school, I struggled to start a poultry farm with one hen. I realized that this was a good venture. I increased the number through natural brooding methods. This raised my flock to 20. I could manage to get an income for subsistence. I also used to sell the poultry droppings to the farmers in order to earn extra income to enable me to buy the [poultry] feed.
My income has been through the sale of eggs from my indigenous poultry, and I can get up to ksh. 300 ($2.89 USD) a day. Capital is a big deal to expand the project, since I am inspired to improve this business to extend [the number of?] brooding chicks using an artificial brooder. I also have a plan for improving the whole system to purchase improved flocks.
I will use the loan to purchase more flocks in order to increase the numbers. $15 will be used to buy three more layers each at $5. The remaining balance of $15 will be spent on buying feeds. I will expect the profit to increase by 3% and this will help to meet the community's demand for eggs.
