About Me

My name is Obiri Isaac, I am 26 years old now. I come from a family of 5 siblings, three elder sisters and two elder brothers, along with my mom and dad. I am particularly close with my sister as she is my only sister, but I also have a strong bond with my brothers. I grew up in Jinijini until I was in 7th grade (14 years old), and then my family moved to Berekum. I completed my high school education there and went on to study at the University of Cape Coast for 4 years before returning to Jinijini. However, things didn't work out with my family, so now I am in Accra, where I have started learning website design.

Currently, I am interested in studying Geographic Information System (GIS). I have always taken my studies seriously and have never said that I hate studies. Some may consider me a geek, but I take it as a compliment. I have had a dream of becoming a geographer since I was 6 years old, and I am committed to doing my best in school to achieve my goal. I am particularly passionate about land surveying and want to contribute towards solving the issue of floods caused by haphazard building constructions in waterways in my area through proper land planning and education.

Apart from academics, I have various interests such as reading books, watching movies, cooking, and praying. I find books to be true friends that never demand or complain, and I mostly enjoy reading novels. Currently, I am reading a novel called "The Blind Assassin". As for movies, I like watching movies such as Titanic, Romeo & Juliet, Crash, and Twilight, among others, and I try to stay up-to-date with the latest releases. Cooking is also a significant interest of mine, which I likely inherited from my mom who is a great cook, especially when it comes to fufu and palm nut soup. I believe that knowing how to cook makes life much easier.

My Business

Due to a government ban on employee recruitment in Ghana, I have established a home-based printing press. I visit schools in my area, Weija, to type, print, and submit examination questions for them at a rate of 10 copies for $1. This has been a profitable venture for me, as I am able to generate approximately $110 per month in profit, despite incurring production costs of around $200.

My services have been particularly helpful to private schools in the area that do not have the resources to type and print their own examination materials. Many infant private schools face the challenge of not having access to an established printing press where teachers can have their exams and tests typed and printed for their students. Recognizing this need and being unemployed at home, I decided to learn Microsoft Office and typing skills to offer my services to these institutions in need. Now, I use the skills I have acquired to assist schools by typing and printing their examination materials.

The revenue I generate from my business is used to provide food for my elderly parents and cover my livelihood expenses. Starting a business in Ghana has not been easy, with increased utilities costs such as water bills, electricity bills, rent, and taxes. Additionally, frequent power outages have been a setback for my business, as I rely on the Ghana Electricity Company for power and do not have the funds to purchase a fuel generator.

I hope to expand my business in the future so that I can start a family and support my wife and children. I plan to use my profits to grow the business and potentially employ more people, thereby providing job opportunities for my colleagues who are struggling to find employment. My ultimate goal is to improve the lives of others by helping them secure their livelihoods through my business.

Loan Proposal

I will buy second hand printer which costs $100. Getting the printer will help me to print typed examinations questions and present them to the client for necessary correction before final copies are printed for the schools. It will help me to reduce the cost of transportation and printing. The cost of printing drains much of the profit I accrue from the business. Thence, the cost of production is high. This hinders the potent to expand the business. Also, I am not able to render services to more schools in Weija. The predicament is that I am not able to operate successfully by typing, printing and submit examination questions. The tedious task of moving to internet cafés to print drains a lot of energy. Stack with this problem getting this loan will help me.
This will help my clients to get printed questions on time and reduced price for evaluation. Sometime, there are a lot of typographical mistakes, to minimize that what I do is to present printed copies to the teachers for evaluation. Consequently, I present either the soft copies for the schools to print themselves or got to nearby printing press to make photocopies according to the number of student population in the school. Getting loan to buy the printer will help me a lot. It will help me to accrue profit of about $2 per 100 printed copies. Hope my income to increase to about $55 per month.
However, just the power outages problem facing Ghana. The government has promised to invest into the energy sector to help relieve the situation. Quite recently the power system in Ghana has improved. Couple with loan from you and betterment of the power system I hope see increment in my income and better life.
As a new business owner I need to get financial aid in shape of loan in order to establish my business in a planned way. Getting loan from financial provider companies and banks can be difficult without any better collateral security but, thanks to Zidisha I will be a be to secure loan to expand my business enterprise. I promise not to disappoint Zidisha. Thank you.
