About Me

My name is Vivian Amolo, born and brought up in Homabay county. I am married and blessed with 4 children, two in secondary school and 1 in primary. After high school, I joined business and farming to support my husband who works in the civil service. Later on I joined a college where I trained as an ECD teacher.

Immediately after college, I got employed and worked for about 3 years.
I quit early this year and with the experience I had acquired, I decided to start my own business of course a kindergarten school right in the slums of Kiambiu.

I like my business because to me caring for young children is natural, its a passion, I find a lot of satisfaction when I help a young child especially from the poor family to learn.

My dreams is to expand my school business to include primary section. My clients (parents) have shown interest in my work and I am sure that with the kind of support I am receiving I will be able to pursue this dream without fear.

My Business

New Start Academy is a school with a difference, located in the heart of Kiambiu slums in Nairobi, the school aims at uplifting the educational standard of the children from poor households. The school cares for the needy and has adopted a very easy payment plan for poor families as a way of giving them hope.

I decided this business early this year after quitting from my employment due to frustration and underpayment. I ventured to this business because I have the experience and the drive. Starting an academy was also a good thought because its through this i will be able to grow and develop my career as a teacher.

My biggest challenge was on how to win trust from parents and to overcome this, I decided to volunteer my services for the 1st two months to prove to them that I could deliver quality services at affordable rates, it was also challenging getting a clean and secure premise in the slums but thanks to God, through my networking skills I was able to overcome.

My customers are parents from the neighborhood, Young mothers who need special care for their children while at work are my primary customers. I would like to increase the student intake every term, provide quality but affordable services and be able to teach young mothers on parental skills over the holidays. I would like to increase my income so as to get enough cash for developing my school in future.

In a month i make profits of upto $ 220 which i use to expand the school and the rest for my family needs.

I am very proud of this business and I am also happy with the kind of responses I am getting from parents and children. I am motivated and inspired to take the business to the next level.

Loan Proposal

The loan will be spent on purchasing desks for my children and also acquire other learning equipments. The total cost is Kshs 28,000, I will be able to top up from my savings and chama to see that I have acquired the desks, text books and teaching aid.

The purchase of this extra desks will create room for more students who will now learn comfortably. It will also help me to strengthen my evening tuition classes for the slow learners and that will mean more income for me.

Improving my work area will lead to better services to my clients and overall it will improve the education standards in t
