About Me

I am Married with 2 children one of 18years and the other one is 9 years. I have work for several companies before making decision to start my own business three years ago. I started with selling clothes but the business did not do well because of low demand. I started selling charcoal which is fast moving commodity in my are where by everybody uses it as a source of energy for cooking and warming during cool weather. The business is good during winter when this product is on high demand due to the cold weather.Besides am always involved in community projects with widow and orphans.widows are required to form a group of ten members, come up with the constitution, and bylaw that would use to govern their group, after that they are registered with the government under Ministry of Gender and Social services, which can allow them access government funds like Uwezo[meaning am capable] and women fund, which attracts lower interest rates as opposed to other mainstream Banks, apart from that ,they meet once a week ,each contributes a dollar, the total is loaned to one member ,who is expected to go and restock her vegetable kiosk, earn a little profit, then return the money after a fortnight with a 5%interest,this has gone along way in improving their financial skills as well as believing in themselves. Most of these widows have been sent away by their in-laws after loosing their husbands, which prompted them to resort to unconventional ways of putting food on the table like prostitution, their future plans include enrolling in government technical Training centers which trains short courses on Hair dressing,Bead work[making very nice earrings an necklaces, purse, and flower vase]pottery, and Tailoring, this courses are far cheaper in government facilities, but this will always be their wishful thinking unless society shows goodwill and pays for this courses. The orphans have also been rehabilitated back to school through government Bursary, instead of doing drugs on the street, they are only allowed to make money through Garbage collection during weekend where every household is expected to pay 1 dollar for every collection, this goes along way in helping them buy food and a bit of clothing.Am a firm believer of giving back to society in whatever way however little, because at the end of the day ,i will have made a difference in someone's life.

My Business

My business is that of selling charcoal to the local villagers I started in the year 2010.the current operating capital is Ksh 25,000 and make a gross profit of KSH 30000 and after paying for all my expenses I remain with a net profit of ksh 7000 which I use for my family needs. I want to increase my capital by at list twice to maximize the business premises space which is currently under utilized. It has a capacity of 100bags of charcoal which I think through Zidisha funding I will be able to meet my goals of stocking 100bags with any given time.I operate this charcoal store about 500m from where i live,my clients are mainly neighbors, church members, and family friends.they are about 3 other charcoal stores, but am a firm believer of business competition, because it keeps me on edge and focused,av seen growth both in clients base and profit, and the no of clients has also tripped from the initial 10 that i started with to 35 that am currently working with,my main secret being good communication skills,so am able to understand my clients specifications and charcoal needs, free delivery is also offered to clients that stay about 200m from the store.i have also introduced an after sale service whereby i will call the client after every delivery and inquire if they are satisfied with the quality and efficiency of the charcoal,in-case of any complaints ,then i would call my supplier immediately and alert him to avoid any recurrence of the problem,by doing all this av been able to build a good rapporteur all my clients based on trust ,honesty and consistency in quality .five years from know am seeing myself being the leading charcoal distributor in githunguri area, and of-course this will only be possible with the continued partnership with zidisha family.

Loan Proposal

Charcoal is the main source of energy in my area, used mainly for cooking and boiling of drinking water, demand is already there due to good quality that i deliver and good customer care skills which for me comes naturally,if you fund this loan I will be able to increase my current stock from 35bags to 80bags,I will be able to make a profit of 185.Dollars on a monthly basis.rent will cost me 28 Dollars per month, county tax department will take 11.dollars also monthly, after deducting all the expenses I remain with a cool profit of 144 Dollars, from this i can comfortably pay your loan back, and even save some for the extension of my daughters bedroom which I promised her that would be ready before December holidays...so kindly have faith in me and fund this loan.

    Hey wonderful people,
I just want to share with you some of the wonderful achievements that zidisha loan had done in my family, first my operating capital has grown from the initial 20,000 to 50,000 this means that am able to order for more stocks which translates to more cash and more profits, the quality has also improved because since am ordering more from my supplier am able to dictate the term of reference as good quality,my clients base has also increased due to reliability,my daughter is the most beneficiary of the profits, because for a long time she had been longing for a birthday party with all her friends invited, and for the first time that became a reality when she celebrated her 9th birthday on 25nov last year, part of the proceeds also went into buying brick that would be used to partition her much awaited bedroom(currently she is sharing a room with her 18yrs old brother )but she keeps begging that her 10th birthday should be the boomb!and the answer i always give is that she should keep praying for zidisha lenders so that they could have more money to lend us to boost our investments

Happy new year(i know its a bit too late for that)but the last time we talked was 2014,so i had to say that.....,anyway how are you doing? on my side am OK of course abit lonely(the schools have re-opened) because the house is so so quite, but al get over after a fortnight,we traveled to our rural home for New year celebration which is about 450km from where we are staying, came back at around 15th of Jan,then started preparing the kids to go back to school. that explains why i have been offline,Business wise am doing well,i managed to make a lot of profit by taking advantage of the high season demand, and geuse what i was the only one with charcoal, because i manage d to stock my store to its required capacity of 100bags with the loan that zidisha gave me plus a little savings that i had in my account,as a result i would even sell a total of 10 to 15 bags in a day with my profit margin going up by 20% compared to the usual limit of 2 dollars per bag!and for the first Robert and Zoey got everything that they had written on their shopping list!(usually they write then i shortlist in term of priority because of budget constrains) and for that zidisha get three cheers, hep hep......hurray ,hep hep hurray, hep hep hurray!... looking forward to doing both wonderful and big things this year of 2015.
    cheers!

Hi people,My name is Zoey Akinyi Ochieng, Akinyi means being born during wee hours in the morning, a male would be called Okinyi. Ochieng is my Dad"s name meaning being born at around sunrise in the morning, the female would be called Achieng(check out my Mums second name)In my Luo tribe culture demanded that children were named according to the time of the day, seasons(be it planting or harvesting)or any political activity that might be taking place during that time(like Independence, would be called Uhuru)as for Zoey ,mum tells me that she watched a movie while pregnant with me and the kid who starred in that movie was called zoey mmmmmh, that is a story for another day, however.I would really thank all Lenders who had faith in my mum"s loan and bidded for it,take from us that your loan will be paid in time as i know that she is a person of high moral standards and integrity, consider your loans fully paid and hopefully she would apply for bigger loans and you will be there to support her!in case i don't get permission to post another comment,I wish to take this earliest opportunity to wish each one of you a Merry Xmas and A Happy New Yeaar...

      Hello Zoey,

Thank you for your lovely message. I'm named after my father and grandfather. As you might guess, this caused some confusion in the family so within the family I was called Denny. Even now amongst friends I introduce myself as Denny.

It is my privilege to be able to help your mother and others like her with their businesses. I firmly believe that we all benefit by helping one another and I do my best to live up to that principle.

My daughter Emma will be visiting for the holidays. She is in her last year of university, studying in Coventry which isn't too far away but far enough that she feels that she has some independence. I tease her that she is an adult "with training wheels", like what a child has on a bicycle.

OK sweetie, time for this old man to stop rambling on and to wish you and your family a happy Christmas and all of the joys of the new year.

      Denny

    hi everyone,
christmas is just around the corner, and as a family we have our tradition of making a very big christmas tree, then each member of the family is given a portion to decorate and as you decorate it you are expected to sing at least 3christmas Carrol as the others listen and of course on 24th eve we visit some of the widows and orphans in the neighborhood with some food items and donate clothes that both Robert and zoey have outgrown.kindly share with us how you spend this last days to Christmas or if you even believe in Christmas day.

It's our tradition that my daughter and wife put up the tree and I supervise, often with a beer or perhaps something a bit stronger. I've had my first mead lately and I can see myself and my wife becoming rather fond of that.

I've recently participated in fund raising for a charity for homeless people where a number of us camped out in the city square. It was rather cold and we weren't permitted a fire so it was difficult but worthwhile.

hahaha,do you have to supervise?or may be you are just colour blind ,for you to be able to decorate a christmas tree you must be in touch with the collour scheme!

hi Dennis,i dropped my phone in water on zoeys birth day hence couldnt be able to upload pictures of her birthday to share the fun that we had, birthday girl notwithstanding.but hopefully it will be repaired in due course and i shall post those pictures. Otherwise my bussiness is doing well ,am almost clearing my stock that came about two weeks ago ,and also glad to report that i had already placed onother order which should arrive anytime, the proceeds that i got from that stock helped me to organise zoeys birthday and she confessed that she had never had such a wonderful birthday with a 2kg cake, baloons, and lots of her friends.initially it used to be 500gms cake, few friends,no balloons,so thanks to you generous people who have made this possible, looking forward to more good and positive things happening in my family life!
