About Me

I am Ayub. I was borne in Nakuru, Kenya to a small humble family of 6 siblings. I had this very hardworking father that one day when he sadly died my mom asked us jokingly, who's gonna be as hardworking as your father. Inwardly, I deeply feel proud that I have taken after my father - I never leave until my efforts have achieved. I managed to sail through campus, undertaking Electrical and Electronics Engineering only by running errands in Nairobi town, at times during classes just to earn a living, including selling insurance policies, registering businesses and delivering post mails. I am today working for a multinational German solar power financier representing them in East Africa (see me in www.ecoligo.com). Still I am running a nut processing and packaging business both to mentor my cousin as well as help her save for her education. Mentorship is what I do best. My pastime hobby is simple: visiting places in the websites: universities, cities, cultures and watching real documentaries. It gets me inspired that one day I will tour the globe.

My Business

Apart from my employment, I run a small business that processes and packages different kind of nuts. My key product is the granola. This is a product that is added to different cuisines and is a mix of many nuts which I roast and grind and mix into a paste. I discovered that in this day and time, healthful living is a key concern for many. My target group is mainly the vegetarian. They need their bodies supplemented by nutrients they lack from animal-based foods. Nuts have most of these nutrients. The value addition for groundnuts, a special package I make, is to add pure honey, cinnamon and cayenne pepper and sell between 0.9 and 3.2 USD/packet. The unit cost of production is 0.4 - 1 USD/packet. My profits are used to grow my business as I save a portion for my cousin's higher education. I market my product through social media and personal network. My ultimate goal is for mass production to supply in supermarkets and to a larger market base. My operation expenditures are mainly electricity costs, since I run my roaster on the grid. I target that through the support of this community to soon but LPG gas roasters. I am proud of the business idea and I am happy to expand it to the many ideas in my mind.

Project Proposal

I will take a pause from growing my business for now and focus on the health of my father.

He has had a respiratory problem coming from his failing lungs since his TB treatment at Kiriaini Hospital in 2013 here in Kenya.

For the last 3 years I have always taken him to Kijabe Mission Hospital West of Kenya's capital, Nairobi for treatment. They have now recommended an oxygen concentrator to help his breathing.

I appreciate the support of the community.

    Hello team,

I really appreciate your support of this project. Apologies for delays in repaying. I will repay shortly.

The below is the concentrator I bought unfortunately dad did not leave to see many days. He died and we buried him. Thanks a million for all your support.

    My loan is fully funded,

    I appreciate your kind support.

I hadn't read your comment LJ and wish you can repost it. My father referred to here is my "father-in-law" who stays with me. My biology father died on 10/7/2010. Just to clarify that.

I'm so grateful to all the community for your support. You're all great!

        Thanks LJ.

I will change the About Me section as advised. Really appreciate you sending feedback.

Yeah, it makes sense for Zidisha to allow backers talk to each other privately.

        Thanks for the best wishes.

Ah I see! Thanks for the heads-up LJ.

I'm happy I got the funding in good time. It is unfortunate that I haven't received the disbursement almost 4 days now though.

Hi Ayub, I'm sorry for the delay. We sent your disbursement when you accepted the loan, but it seems the Mpesa system was down and it did not go through. We have sent it again now. - Julia

I want to register my gratitude for the previous loan I repaid already. It helped me purchase a microwave oven.

I am now able to heat up my food before deliveries so quickly.

I have a bigger dream and I am sure I will realize it using Zidisha.

    Grateful to the community.

Many thanks to my backers I managed to buy a microwave oven. It's a 2-in-one machine which can both heat cooked meals and bake.

    Dear backers,

I will be buying a Microwave Oven to help me bake and equally warm my food orders faster than using an LPG oven. I attribute the success of my planned business growth to your willingness and trust to me. I promise to make timely repayments.

    Hey Richard Reeve,

    Thanks for good wishes.

I got introduced to Zidisha in the year 2014 when I was still in campus. I really struggled to raise cash for repayments. Years down the line, when I was able to, I decided to clear the remaining balance of 5,000 KES and now so geared to build my credit worth to being able to build my largest life's dream business of owning a big truck for ferrying construction materials.

    Special regards to my lenders.

I wish to reschedule my loan due to unavoidable situations that have happened in the recent past. I have lost my previous occupation and now serving a new one.
I therefore find it important to change my current repayment schedule. this far, I have found delight in keeping track of my repayment Schedule, trying for promptness as much as i could possibly manage. the current schedule seems nit only manageable but possible for me, for reason that it is attainable for me

    Mr. Gathu,

I see that you are a student and I commend you for that. I also thought that your business venture seems interesting. It seems that it is still in the planning stages, so I was wondering what would be the source of repayments in case you some hiccups in the beginning? If you could give me a bit more information I'd appreciate it.
