My name is Alex Kiprotich and I am the third born a family of eight children. I have three brothers and four sisters. My parents are both alive and they work as farmers in the village. I started going to school at the age of five years. I finished my primary school and secondary school. After secondary school I joined college for higher diploma certificate in Information Technology.
I was did not have money to sustain me in the college three years ago. I struggled for it but eventually I managed to start come up with an idea to support myself. My parents could not afford any extra money apart from paying only school fees. At that time I had a phone which could access internet and because we were being given research work, my colleagues used to borrow my phone. I started charging them when they borrow my phone overnight to access internet for their research work, gradually I saved money and I bought a desktop computer.
I started generating good money as income for myself and I did not lack things to use in the college. After college I decided to open a cybercafe just near the college. This is exactly how I came to start the cybercafe business.
In my culture, we circumcise boys at the age of eight years but when they go beyond eight years without circumcision they wait until when they are twelve or fourteen years. At this time they are forced to undergo hard rituals to make them adult.
I do operate Cybercafe as my business of choice. People come the cybercafe to browse/surf then pay me for the time they have used in the internet. In the cybercafe I install internet and buy internet bundles which allows my customers to browse and pay using bundles depending of the time spent while browsing. Before buying another bundles I would have generated money that when I deduct the expenses I will remain with some amount as revenue.
The cybercafe business is highly on demand. People of different professionalism do come and browse. Students browse for their research work in the cybercafe. Job seekers come to Google for job opportunities online. Others browse for international scholarships. Others come to browse, receiving and sending their documents through internet in my cybercafe. My cybercafe business has people coming to use internet on daily basis. I chose this business because I understand how it operates and I love it. It generates good revenue for survival.
My monthly expenditures is approximately $50 to $60. I collect a total of $120 and when I deduct expenses I remained with revenue of $70-$60 depending on the constancy of customers. I use this revenue to reinvest in business, buy internet bundles, paying rent, food, transport and school fees.
I will use the money that I am given to purchase internet bundles of $20. I will buy 3 new cables that will cost $15 and do a general internet installation of $15. This will make the business grow and bring more customers. Recently internet access is very slow and that is the reason why I allocate $15 for general re-installation. Buying 3 new cables will make the internet quick and accessible internet. Moreover, having enough internet bundles to allow customer browse consistently to avoid internet breakdown is necessary.
My cybercafe business is very beneficial to me and my customers. Since my monthly expenses ranges from $50 to $60 and yet I collect a total of $120 and when I deduct expenses I remained with revenue of $70 to $60 depending on the constancy of customers. I use this revenue to reinvest in business, buy internet bundles, paying rent, food, transport and school fees.
