About Me

My name is Faith Wangechi Muriithi. I am a mother of 4. All of my adult life, I have been working to make sure my children have the best in life.
Despite all the difficulties along the way, my husband and I managed to take them all through University through business and employment. Currently, we are running a small animal feeds shop in our home.

My Business

After retirement, we opened a small animal feeds shop in our home town. Baricho town is in rural Kenya, Kirinyaga County where most of the people get their daily income from farming. An animal feeds shop, therefore, came in handy for the local population.

Supa Stores Agrovet is open 12 hours during weekdays and Saturdays and during the afternoon on Sundays. We like to be available to our clients when they need us. During the duration we have been open, there have been a few challenges some of them being, clients have specific types of feeds they like to feed their livestock. Sometimes, the exact brand needed is not available immediately. We would like to curb these challenge by stocking our shop so that our clients have whatever they need at the convenient time for them.

Loan Proposal

With my last loan, I managed to purchase poultry and cattle feeds for my Agrovet Shop. Stocking at large quantities has the advantage that clients get the products they want whenever they want them.

Now that people have harvested their crops, the dried up plants have been converted into animal feeds for the livestock. Purchase of animal feeds will therefore not be in large quantities.

However, People are going to be busy preparing their farms for next season before the rains come again. They will therefore need a variety of products including manure, treated seeds, and fertilizers and other farm implements like jembes and pangas.

Since there are still farming implements like pangas and jembes from last season's left over stock, I would like to purchase seeds and fertlizer instead so I can repackage them and sell them at pocket friendly prices to the other farmers around Baricho, my home town.

Fertilizers like Mkulima Bora, DAP, CAN and NPK are packaged in 50 kg bags each costing between 23 to 30 dollars. The fertilizers used mostly by farmers around Baricho are CAN, UREA and DAP. CAN goes for 23 dollars, UREA goes for 19 dollars per 50 kg bag while DAP goes for30 dollars per 50 kg bag.

I would like to purchase a bag and a half of each of the above fertilizers i.e.
CAN 75 kgs which would cost me approximately 35 dollars
UREA 75 kgs which would cost me approximately 29 dollars; and
DAP 75 kgs which would cost me approximately 45 dollars.
These amount to approximately 109 dollars i.e. KES 11000.

Most farmers prefer to buy treated and packaged maize seeds to bean seeds. I would therefore prefer stocking up on maize to beans. A 90 kg bag of treated maize seeds goes for approximately 6000 Kenyan shillings at whole sale price. Retail price for such a bag would be approximately 80 Kenyan shillings per kg totaling to approximately 7200 Kenyan shillings. I would like to buy one 90 kg bag at approximately 58 dollars. the retail price would be pocket friendly for the small scale farmers around Baricho.

The maize and fertilizer would cost me approximately 167 (109 + 58) dollars i.e 17500 Kenyan shillings.

I would also like to purchase preservatives for the planting seeds which keeps weevils and rats away. To treat the products i would need approximately 10 dollars worth of pesticide bringing my total cost to 177 dollars.

Since most farmers buy their products in small quantities, I will then repackage my products into 1 kg bags each to make them more affordable to customers. the population around Baricho heavily relies on farming for their sustainability. i would therefore like to appeal to my lenders to fund my loan so I can play my part in sustaining Kirinyaga County.

I would really appreciate this opportunity. If granted the loan, I will do my best to complete my payment on time like with the previous loan. looking forward to a positive response. Thank you.
