My name is Rachael Mupukuta. I am a married woman. I live in Siavonga town and I have three children.
I am a small scale farmer who grows vegetables for a living. I grow cabbages, rape and onions.
Siavonga is a beautiful town that is home to Lake Kariba. My farm is located near the lake.
I grow different types of vegetables - Spinach, Rape, Onion and Cabbages. I sell these vegetables to markets, restaurants and individuals in Siavonga town.
My vegetables are grown with water from Lake Kariba. I use poly pipes and a 5,000l water tank to irrigate my garden.
I plan to buy a 1000l water tank and a 100m roll of 50mm poly pipes to water my vegetable field.
I hope to harvest my vegetables soon and the vegetables requires a lot of water.
The lake water close to my field is drying up fast due to severe drought, so I will be using the tank to store water and to water the vegetables.
The poly pipe will be very helpful when pumping water in the tank and my vegetables will be fresh when I sell them.
I sell my vegetables on a daily basis to my regular customers, who include a boarding school and a clinic. Schools have reoponed so business is now booming and orders for vegetables are coming in fast!
