My name is Samuel Milanda, from Kolo village of Rusinga Island, Homa Bay County, I am the third born in a family of eight, I schooled at Nyamuga Primary School and did not proceed to High School. Unfortunately I didn’t further my education beyond that due to lack of fees. I decided to venture into commercial farming; I am currently growing high value horticultural crops and keeping dairy cattle.
From my income I have been able to take my young brother to High School and take care of my elderly parents.
I am a Pastor at a local Pentecostal Church, I also love watching football, riding motorcycle and making new friends. I also find time to do community work, cleaning my nearest town Mbita, and visit less fortunate in the community e.g. orphans, street children and elderly.
I really find Zidisha interesting and hope and life changing initiative after seeing my brother in Christ Kennedy develop his school enterprise and the future looks bright. I wish that the beneficiaries will be honest so that more and more lives can be changed through this initiative
I am a smallholder commercial farmer. I have a half an acre of land where I plant high value horticultural crops. My products include high end traditional African vegetables as well as exotic such as cabbages and kales. I always do timing such that my vegetables are in the market during drought seasons when demand far outweighs supply. This has always given me, competitive edge against my competitors and since most of them doesn’t always have the products at that time. I always ensure my products are of high standard, fresh and healthy so that my clients can get the highest quality from best quality products.
In a typical month I always use Ksh 12,000 to take care of my farm business. I use the money to buy fertilizers and pesticides who help me prepare my farm, seedlings and other miscellaneous. My monthly revenues are Ksh 9,000 in a month, In a good month I make profit of Ksh 9,000.
I need a loan of Ksh 6,034 to buy assorted farm tools and crops to help expand the farm. The increased profit will be used to repay the loan, pay my two children school fee and buy food for my family.
