About Me

My name is Kelvin Karanja 25 years old. I was born and raised in Nyahururu in Laikipia county.I started my primary education levels in Falling Waters School. Being a hard-working boy, I scored 340marks out of 500.
Unfortunately, I could not join provincial government school that I was to join due to financial constraints; my family could not raise that amount considering my humble background where mum was the only breadwinner.
Luckily, I joined a local day secondary school in division. Being in a day school, it was a not a walk in a park, we experienced very cold morning, lack of proper clothing and sometimes school's fee was a challenge.
In spite of the challenges, I was a playful and focused student; I managed to score B in K.C.S.E. With that grade, I was to further my education to University level. Once again, again I couldn't join one. University studies turned too expensive to afford. Luckily, I could secure jobs at construction sites in the outcast of Nairobi city.I worked for two good year while savings little in a bank and M- pesa(Mobile money transfer).
From this saving, I begun selling new clothing on OlX and later opened an online store on Jumia, Kaymu (largest e commerce mall in Africa ) and a Facebook Page.I could receive orders than I had ever imagined.
Eventually, I was lucky to secure position in technical university and am currently taking a course in Fashion design. The profit made from my business do sponsor my studies and purchasing more inventory.

My Business

I own on-line store at Jumia, and Kaymu.I have specialized in promoting both men's and women's fashion, as well as jewelry and accessories. In men's clothing, I stock the following shirt, polo shirt, jackets, Jeans shoes and khaki's trousers. Women's fashion tends to perform well considering women are frequent buyers; in women's fashion, I stock the following: official dress, skirt, night dress and shoes.Accessories and jewelry are always on demand, specifically towards December since people purchase them in bulky as gifts to their loved ones. They includewatchers, sunglasses and belts. I decided to venture in fashion because it keeps on changing, and no one wants to be left out especially in ladies they will keep on making orders now and then, this offer a ready market for my product.Loyal customer will frequently make new orders, particularly once you won their trust; customer find on-line to be convenient in time, notably for those working in big towns that traffic jam is the order during the day. Internt offers a wide market for both customer and supplies. With just a click of a button, customer can make an order and have it delivered to their home and offices. Mobile money transfer has made it possible. They include M-PESA and Airtel money, this have made it easy for sellers to receive money from different parts throughout the country. Secondly, e commerce businesses are very cheaper to start and run; it only requires at one time to source goods ,take images, upload them and wait for orders from peoples all over the country. With a computer and an reliable internt coonnection ,you are ready to go.Ensure proper communication channels are in place. Working capital has been the biggest challenge for Small Enterprise.I remember receiving orders than I couldn't supply due to limited funds. Getting loans from banks remains to just a dream! Interests charged are too high some go up to 24% per month. Considering other costs incurred during the process, make it uneconomical to apply for such loans. Thanks to Zidisha for making dreams of many peoples come true.
I use profit made from my sale to pay my bill, sponsoring my studies as well as purchasing more inventory.
