I am Yabesh Mabea of age 18. I finished high school last year (2013). During my high school period, I was passionate of computer education and technology application. Currently, I have been enrolled and was admitted in Chuka University (10th September, 2014) to pursue a degree in Agribusiness Management. Since I come from a peasant family, I am sure that pocket money and upkeep money will be a big challenge. I am working towards being creative and innovative to see that my life as well as others is comfortable.
I intend to open a self-help group among the students so that we can train school based (part-time learners) and other individuals who do not afford to train in technical and colleges probably due to time limit and lack of finances. We will offer to teach basic computers skills to children and adults who are new to computers. The team will take services even to the clients’ homes. We will be flexible as per the clients’ needs. I am working towards identifying a competent group that will help me work to see that the society at large has embraced technology and work efficiently. After doing my research and critical analysis, I realized that as much as people are computer literate, still, there are many people who are yet to be assimilated in the current world of technology. It is even surprising that many people do not know how to organize files, copy and paste texts, browse the web, and many other basic skills. Also, I realized that most of elementary and high school teachers sometimes require assistant when it comes to internet and computer application in general. I decided to come up with the idea of teaching this target group so that many people who my need my help will benefit. As I teach them, I will charge a small fee that will provide me with upkeep and catering during my university period.
If Zidisha lenders accept to fund my project, I will use it to procure my first computer that will help me in my computer teaching carrier. I will use $140 to purchase a desktop and $10 to buy a modem. Later, I will collect money from the clients’ fees and other sources to purchase a more portable PC (laptop).
