About Me

I grew up in Kibera, a slum on the outskirts of Nairobi. In Kibera, my life was not that easy because my parents were financially unstable. I still live in Kibera, and my dreams are to have some wealth and financial stability and be able to support those who are disadvantaged.

I was employed as a security officer locally here in Kibera. Because I worked as a security guard at night, I was able to do other work during the day. I used my salary from my security job to purchase a hand-cart (a push wagon) to rent to people so they can transport goods around Kibera. With that extra income, I was able to purchase two more hand-carts that I also rent to my neighbors and members in the community.

My Business

My business is renting hand-carts (large wagons that are able to be pulled by one person). My clients use the carts to transport goods that are sold in Kibera as well as to transport trash and garbage out of the slum. I started my business in 2009 so I would be able to make my own opportunities - I would not be reliant on others to give me work.

My clients include my neighbors and vendors and shopkeepers within the Kibera community, but my goals and dreams for the future include having my own pick-up truck transport service and serving people both inside and outside Kibera. Due to the growth of my business and the expansion of my assets, I believe that I will be able to buy my own pick-up truck that can serve beyond the community of Kibera.

I feel happy and grateful to the members of my community who use my services, hire my handcarts, and continue to support my business.

Loan Proposal

I am going to buy recyclable materials, this will cost 3000 kes. The sales of recyclable materials will enhance the higher profit that will help me to pay back loan and to support my family.
