My name is Risper Mwikali, born in Kitui County Kenya. I was born in a family of 4 where I am the second born and the only girl in the family. Kitui is a hardship area and much neglected by the government since it is a semi arid area with very few resources. I grew up in this environment into adulthood where I decided to relocate to Mombasa to live with my elder brother while looking for greener pastures.
With help from my brother and parents, I enrolled for a hairdressing course in Mombasa where I was trained for one year. I got a job thereafter and I started saving to start my own beauty parlor since that was dream all along.
With my savings, I was able to open my own place three years ago and I am still running the business. I am a mother of three children and I work very hard to provide good education for them (they are all in school) and secure their future.
My business deals with beauty where I serve ladies who like to look good. I do haircare and associated beauty work such as pedicure and manicure. I normally target the working people since they have some money to spend on their hair and bodies.
The business is doing well currently since I am able to serve my loyal clients as well as winning ones. I make a profit of about $200 per month which I use for my family's upkeep.
As mentioned above, my business deals with beauty. My clients always expect very high standard which can be overwhelming at times. My parlor needs a fresh coat of paint as well as a floor carpet since the old ones have faded away. It is also a requirement by the local authority for the business premises to have a new paint at the beginning of every year.
If given this money, I will use half of it to repaint my parlor and the balance to buy a carpet so that my business can reach the required standard. Without these two, I might not get a license to operate from next month. For this reason, I have come to appeal to you lenders to support me so that I continue with what I know best.
I would have liked to finance this using proceeds from the business but there are so many competing needs for the little money that I collect from the business. The money will be a big boost to the business and I money will continue to stream in.
