I am the fourth born in a family of six children. I was raised in Kariobangi Estate which is a slum next to Huruma. While growing up life was very difficult because my father was the only bread winner yet the family was big. He could not meet all our needs adequately and this meant going to school was a struggle. After completing high school I could not find employment and stayed at home until I got married. I was employed in a hotel but the pay was very little so I left and went to run a food stall which belonged to my sister. My husband then paid for a hair dressing course which I completed in 2012 August. I was then employed in a hair saloon but the money I was paid was very little and could not meet the financial needs of my family. I decided to save some money after which I started my own hair saloon business in Huruma. Currently I live with my husband and daughter in Huruma. I dream of a brighter future where my business will grow enough to give me financial independence so that I can give my children the best education and also provide for their basic needs. I have managed a food stall very successfully for my sister and I believe this makes me an experienced business person.
My business deals with hair designs for ladies girls and even children. I also sell beauty products such as weaves and hair extensions, beauty creams, hair chemicals, shampoos and cosmetics. I started the business in 2012 because my husband's income was not enough to provide well for our family needs. It reached a point where even buying food and paying the bills was a problem and we lived from one debt to another. I tried employment but still the pay was very little so I decided to start this business. My biggest challenge is lack of capital to expand my business. I am very proud of my business because it makes customers look beautiful, distinguished and admirable. I am also proud because it supplements my husbands income and brings bread on the table. The fact that I am able to contributes towards the family's up keep also makes me feel worthy since my husband greatly appreciates my efforts. In future i hope to expand my business and open two or three branches
I will renovate the business premise, buy hair extension products such as weaves/ braids and human hair , hair creams, shampoos and chemicals as well as body lotions and creams. This will cost me a total of around $230
Renovations will make the business premise more attractive, customer friendly and enable me retain my regular customers and also attract new ones. The hair extension products and chemicals, lotions and creams will enable me serve more customers at my business and also for those who come to buy the products. This will lead to and increase in my sales hence increase in profits. This loan will make my business stable and improve earnings. I hope to give my family a better life in terms of food and housing as a result of this loan.
