About Me

My names are John Kariuki, born in 1978 in a small town Known as Embu. while still young i went through the primary education and completed successfully in 1994 and later on i joined Kamama Boys High School for my O levels. At the end of a four years study i finished successfully whereby i attained a mean grade of B minus which was considered as very good results. i was unable to join university due to lack of finances since i hand already lost both of my parents. This lead me to take informal casual jobs whereby i started working in the church. This job involved carrying and connecting musical instruments for the church especially when the church was doing outdoor evangelism. In the church i was also trained to play and to service some musical instruments more so the piano and guitars. with the help of the church, i enrolled myself in the college whereby i took a course in electronics. Life in college was very difficult because of lack of money, therefore, to support myself i started joining the building and construction teams whenever i was free commonly known as "Mjengo." In the construction industry things were not easy either but diligently worked hard considering that there was no other available jobs, During this period i happen to have developed strong desire to own my own rental flats even though i had no money to invest in real estate. i earned small and saved small until when i managed to buy a piece of land whereby i have now started my own rental business. This is the business i really want to grow it to the next level. Here in our community every one works hard irrespective of their short comings in life and therefore i also cannot get any excuse of not working towards my goals.

My Business

I am currently committed to developing my rental housing business to the next level. My business started very humbly but i am one person who never despise the days of humble beginning. I started by purchasing one lorry of building stones and in the next month i would buy one lorry of sand. Buying one thing at a time was the only way for me to achieve my dreams. This has taken me twelve years precisely. And even in this twelve years, i have only managed to build four units of single room flats that i rent out at a cost of 34 dollars per month per every room. This totals to 134 dollars. I have a very strong passion to expand my project. i am convinced beyond doubts that this is the right business for me to do. This is only business in Kenya that never makes any loss. this is because there is a big shortage of houses. The rental houses are in very big demand in Kenya. This is partly due to urbanization and more so because most of the Kenyan manufacturing industries and factories are located within Town and urban areas. Therefore one can never go wrong in housing sector. This motivates me to even work harder. Further more, after building and renting, everything else is income and profits. This is the main reason i am happy to have known zidisha. Zidisha loans will help me do the painting of the already finished units and later on i will use zidisha loans to build more units. This is good for me because i am now able to solve a problem that is affecting so many people while at the same time edging closer to my vision of owning a business of Rental houses.

Loan Proposal

i am applying this loan for the improvement of my rental houses. This is a business that i have chosen and i have a lot of passion for it. This money will help me to do electrical wiring for the houses. currently the houses are occupied but they do not have electricity, therefore i am well convinced that by connecting electricity my houses will be more habitable and my tenants will be more happy. This also will enable my rental houses to stand out. i am well convinced that zidisha loans will help me develop this project further until this becomes an estate with increased income.

Thanks James, i still believe that with determination everything is possible. we don't have to look at how big the mountain is, all what we need is to know that with one step at a time we will finally climb to the top of the mountain.

Dear lenders, i am very grateful for the loan that you gave me to install electricity to my rental housing business. i am very happy because i was able to pay 166 dollars to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company as deposit for the installation of electricity. I also spent 29 dollars to pay for my transportation cost to and from the Kenya power and Lighting Company Offices. The total amount for the full installation will be 498 dollars. Therefore, i will still be required to clear a balance of 332 dollars. I am really thankful for your generosity. I am happy because i know Once the electricity is fully installed, my houses will even appeal more to my tenants and my business will even be better. After installation of Electricity, i will also be required to install piped water and also build hygienic toilets after which i will now construct more rental houses.

My first loan was great, i managed to buy grey paint for my doors, white paint for my lintel and black paint for the window panes. This amounted to a total of 5000ksh, i also spent the rest of money to pay the paint man for the job.

My houses look more beautiful and attractive even to my tenants. Now they are very happy because the houses look good. this has also increased confidence between me and my tenants. My houses are also fully occupied and i happy because this is possible because of zidisha loan. At least now i have a guaranteed income from this projected and i will now continue re investing the income that i get inform of rents to build some more houses. this income will also help me educate my children.

having a permanent source of income is a very important thing for a family. my family is happy and i have confidence that zidisha loans will help me develop it further.
Thanks to zidisha loans, my project is now taking shape.

Zidisha has not only helped me access affordable credit, but also it has given me a lot of hopes of achieving my dreams. with the first loan i received from zidisha, i was able to purchase paint for my rental housing project. i managed to purchase black paint for my window panes, white paint which i used to paint my lintel, and i also bought grey paint that i used to paint my doors.

Now my houses look beautiful and my tenants are happy and i am happy as well because i can see that my project is now starting to take shape. My plans is to build some more rental houses so that i can be able to increase my earnings, i am also happy because zidisha loan has helped me make my houses more habitable and this has made my tenants to have more confidence in me.

The earnings that i get from this project helps me to be able to educate my children. i also use some of this earnings to purchase more construction materials so that i can build some more houses. This dream is quickly becoming a success story because of zidisha loans.
