My name is Bridget. I am from Kenya and this is my story. I was born in a family of two and I am the first-born. I grew up on the eastern side of Kenya, in a small town called Meru. I went to a local primary school in Meru, from pre-unit to Grade 8. After that, I joined Kaaga Girls' High School, which also is in Meru. I completed my high-school education in 2010 and, since then, I have been working at Alliance Vision Education Center (AVEC) as head of volunteering and fundraising. I am currently planning on enrolling in college to pursue a diploma in Community Development, which is the reason I am applying for this loan, to use it to pay for my fees. The classes will be part-time.
I help to raise funds for a kids' feeding programme at AVEC, which also holds orphans and vulnerable kids. I further have a daycare for children on my estate, for which I have an assistant who handles that when I am at AVEC.
AVEC is based in Dandora, Phase 5, which is not far from where I currently live. (Sponsors for this Centre are welcome.) I chose this business because I saw the opportunity, in that lots of parents have to go to work but most don't have household help, so they had no one to take care of their kids.
We charge KES 200 ($2 U.S.) per day for each child, and we care for an average of five (5) children per day. I will be able to repay my loan from these proceeds.
I will use the loan to pay for my school fees. I am enrolling in college to pursue a diploma in Community Development, which is in line with both the work I am doing at AVEC and the daycare business. That way, I am expecting to get a promotion at AVEC, in the next few years.
