About Me

My name is Derrick Amoh,  26 years old. I am the first born out of 4 children.
Growing up as a young baby boy , my mom told me I was very strong and like to play  it she realized when she call me I do not answer. She told me the sound I was making was strange so she took me to the hospital to examine me. The doctors told my mom that your son would not hear again.

That is me! I am deaf in both my ears but I can see.
In my village there is no better school for special children. I really loved school so my mom said I cried uncontrollably for her to enroll me in a government nursery.  I was always happy going to school says my mom but a time I return I sometime cry because friends in class made fun of me.
I ,eant how to write and read just that i could not read it out for hearers to hear me. I did extra what a nor al pupil will do just to be able to learn.
I schooled to level 5 and the head teacher informed my parents that I was a special child hence they should either enroll me in a special school for the deaf or stop coming to his school.
This was the end of my education but as a young boy who was eager to learn,  I took books from my friends when they close and learned how to spell. I collected story book from a where I can find and read while writing new words I find.

My parents are farmers so as the first strong boy, I started work in the farm very early.

My Business

I learnt how to shave from an uncle who most of the boys come to him for a shave. I drew near to him and he taught me.
This was how I ended up to be a barber.

I have been booed many times , cried a lot but never gave up.

To be able to put all these words together here is even a miracle to me and how I wish I can narrate my story very clearly enough to get the picture.


When I became perfect in shaving the hair, I started shaving my kid sisters and friends around. They mostly come with their own blade for the shave. I bought scissors and shaving comb from the littles tips I recieved after shaving my neighbors.

I recieve invites to shave some elders in the community at their homes and when I am at home I stay in our small veranda to shave all the school children who comes to me.
Through this I have been able to gain some money and bought  a table,  mirror and some rubbing alcohol to use after shave.

I also spend the day in the farm to help my parents and in the evening I shave.

Gradually this shaving business is growing day by day.

Loan Proposal

I shave people at their home when they call me, mostly the elders. I also shave other people in my home. I use only blade and scissors.
I want to use this money to buy a new machine.
