The earlier amount that i had proposed to pay with was a great challenge on my side than i had thought of before. this is because am a family man and am depended upon by my family to pay their fees and also their daily needs. currently there has been a fluctuating payments but am doing my level best to repay the loan in due time.Due to the change of expected monthly income i have decided to change my monthly installment rate to a value that balance between my loan repayment and basic needs. with the new proposed value i believe i will be able to repay the loan without any delays because that amount will give me space to cater also for my family's basic needs. i hope you will look upon my case and help me change my monthly installments to the value i have proposed so that i can be able to pay the loan in the right duration.

I think probably because there's 42 cents still outstanding. I'm unsure what the reason for that is - Julius seems to be eager to pay things back, so perhaps an inflation issue or something? Anyway, I agree, some comment from the Zidisha staff is warranted at this point.

    Hello lenders,

My name is Achintya RAI. On 28th March 2012 I visited Julius Ngare Mburu in Rongai area of Nakuru.

Julius owns a welding and general fabrication shop in Rongai Center. He makes windows, gates and doors of steel on order. He also does some roofing work where he goes to the customer site to repair/make the roof. For most of his work he buys the steel and the supplies and charges the customer on completion of the order. He also has a small plot for horticulture where he grows vegetables.

Julius took a Zidisha loan to buy a grinder machine (called ‘angle grinder’ on Wikipedia), which is essential to his operations and used the remaining amount to pay the fees of his children. He was able to improve his business because of this investment and has already planned what he will do with his next Zidisha loan.

Julius earlier used batteries to operate his welding machine but now there is electricity in Rongai and the supply is quite reliable. He told me that even though there are daily power cuts, they are not for long and thus don’t affect his business. With the next loan Julius wants to buy a battery-charging machine, which he could use to generate extra income by charging batteries for cars and motorbikes.

Julius has four children. He has studied till standard-8. His wife has studied till form-2 (which is 2 classes higher than standards 8). This is quite common in Kenya. Many women are better educated than their husbands and almost all women have independent sources of income. This not only supplements the family income but also makes the women independent.

Julius’ shop’s name is ‘Juhudi Welders’. Julius explained to me that ‘Juhudi’ means encouraging or working hard. What he was doing indeed looked like very hard work. I wish him and his family all the luck for the future
