About Me

My name is Tim Kinyua. I'm a Tour Guide based in Nairobi, Kenya.

I have a passion for wildlife, nature and the environment hence I feel most at home whilst doing my job. I'm married and have one adorable daughter who is now 4 years old.

My country, Kenya, is awesome. From a beautiful snow-capped mountain from which she gets her name (Mt. Kenya), to lovely pristine beaches, to a real desert, to a wide variety of animals and rich cultural diversity, I feel very satisfied being a guide in this awesome country.

My Business

I run a small Tour Company called Savannah Escapades (www.savannahescapades.co.ke). We offer mainly safari packages where we organize all the logistics like booking the lodges offering transport and guiding services. Occasionally (on request), we organize camping tours.

My passion for nature, wildlife and the environment is my drive. I have been in the business for 4 years now so i mostly try to reinvest most of my profits right back into the business for it to keep growing.

With today's traveler being well conversant with the internet, and hotels taking their marketing to cyberspace through companies like Hotels.com and Tripadvisor, the traditional travel agent is finding himself in a shrinking and more competitive market.

Luckily for me, I started guiding tours and since I have a tour van (a van converted with a pop-up roof for more convenient game viewing), I'm contracted by other small companies, thus complimenting my income.

Loan Proposal

I intend to have some parts of the vehicle suspension replaced, i.e. rack ends, swing arms, and ensure that I do alignment, camber and caster to protect my tires.

The vehicles that often go to the bush must do this often as the rugged terrain often has a heavy toll on the vehicle suspension.

Income Source

The world is now getting more and more if the population vaccinated against covid. Kenya's Tourism sector has not been left behind. I for one have received my first dose.

As the European summer nears, we are expecting that we will have more visitors, and barring a fourth wave in our country, we expect to head into a busy tourism season within the coming month or so.

I also run a vegetable distribution business where I buy and redistribute vegetables to my neighborhood for a small profit. This compliments my income by about Kes 1,000 on a busy week. I can always fall back on this income should tourism not pick.

Thank you very much for funding my project.

Now, I will be able to complete fabrication of four windows and a door that I had started on.

I will also be able to pay for transport, and pay masons to fix the four windows and door.

I am currently unable to keep up with the Kes 2,480 instalments payment.

I have diligently paid and was left with only three instalments to clear my loan.

I have have a sudden loss of income, and thatnis why I have to readjust my loan repayment instalments.

I have a good repayment history, and remain committed to keeping it up.

With my last loan, I was able to repair my safari van, changing a few parts such as the clutch kits. I have done quite a few safaris with the vehicle having piece of mind in knowing that it is good condition.

I am very grateful to the Zidisha Community for enabling small business people overcome hurdles like that.

best of luck Timonthy - i climbed Kilimanjaro in 2016 - beautiful country! Not sure lockdown is easing soon but hope this helps, best wishes, matt

Thanks a lot Matt, for your good wishes.

Kilimanjaro is actually on the Tanzanian side, so to climb, you must have been in Tanzania. However, the best views are from the Kenyan side. Next time, visit Amboseli National Park, Kenya ;-)

The lock down was eased last week and our government is trying to vaccinate many of us, including Tourism sector players. I actually got my first dose of the vaccine last week. With that, we are hopeful that Tourists will visit again soon.

Thanks and hopefully, one day, you can visit again.

I really struggled to repay my last loan following a difficult year for tourism world over. Gladly, I managed to repay all of it.

Timothy is still willing to offset his loan completely though tourism has slowly started tour guiding and taking shape slowly.
