About Me

Hi Zidisha team! May I take this opportunity to thank you for the loans I have received so far from Zidisha. They have made my life change for the better. My name is Barnabas Mubasu Wesonga. I am the second born in a family of six. I live in Airstrip estate, which is found in Busia town along Busia-Kisumu Highway. I have changed my work, so currently I work as a ward administrator for Marachi Central Ward in Busia County. I worked hard during my school days, and currently I hold a degree: a Bachelor of Arts (Communication and Media Technology) with Information Technology from Maseno University.

I operate a classic barber shop and a hardware store. I started my businesses because I wanted to make an extra coin as well as create employment opportunities for the youth that I have employed in my businesses. I live in a country where everyone is struggling to make ends meet in life. I want to make sure I invest for my grandchildren so that they don't struggle much in life. I have an interest in helping deprived, excluded and vulnerable children and youth, so I take part in sensitizing the youth to avoid drug abuse and live responsibly.

My Business

Currently, I own a classic barbershop and a hardware store. The barbershop is in high demand because everybody wants to look smart and beautiful. For the hardware store, Busia County is rapidly developing, creating a high demand for building materials. I decided to be part of the solution by providing affordable construction materials as we aim at achieving the goals set for Vision 2030. My major expenses include rent for the businesses, electricity bills, licenses and wages for my casual employees. My revenues are profit and the money paid for the services received. I use my profit to pay school fees for my brother and daughter, pay rent for the businesses, purchase more stock, and support my parents and the community.

Loan Proposal

Dear lenders,
Once more, thank you for your continuous support. I have applied for another loan again to enable me complete my ongoing construction of a rental house. In Busia town, there is housing problem, and since it has been made County Headquarters, things may worsen if we as the youth don't become innovative. Through my savings from taxi business and pool business, and earnings, I was able to acquire a plot in town, and now I am building a rental house. Things have become tough when I realized I had run out of cash. But then I knew Zidisha would save me put a roof to the building. Iron sheets cost Kshs. 60000 (USD 666) while timber costs Kshs. 30000 (USD 333). I will get revenue from rent if the house is complete, a part from solving housing problem in Busia town. Rent in Busia for such a big house is about Kshs. 10,000 per month. Through my taxi business, I make approximately Kshs. 2000 a day for five days a week, so I will be in a position to repay my loan. Thanks in advance for your support to me and many.

    Hello Zidisha team!

I hope this mail finds you well. I am sorry for having defaulted the loan you granted me. My business totally collapsed. That is what made me not repay my loan as scheduled. I have been making efforts to clear my loan, which has made my amount due to be around Kshs. 19,000. It is not my wish that I fail to clear my loan. It really helped me at the time of need and I still need it in future. Kindly allow me to look for money and clear amount due of about Kshs. 19,000, then you remove me from the Credit Reference Bureau so that I can access a bank loan and clear my Zidisha loan. In case I fail to honor that, then return me to Credit Reference Bureau.

Barnabas, lenders don't report anyone to or clear anyone from the CRB; the Staff does that.

To reach the Staff, a/k/a Team (www.zidisha.org/team),
please click on the HELP link in your account.

Please note that your borrower-lender Discussion page isn't the correct place to try to reach the Staff, because they almost never visit these pages. Thank you.

    Dear lenders,
Thank you so much for the continued support. I used the loan I was given to repair my car which I was using as a taxi. I bought a new engine and paid the mechanic. That made my car to be in a good condition. I was able to sell the car at a higher price due to its better condition (Kshs. 250,000) and start a hardware business. I added some money from my savings and also started a barber shop. My earnings have increased as I am able to make Kshs. 25,000 per month. My family is happy because they view me as a visionary and responsible family head. I take them around especially in the neighbouring Republic of Uganda. Busia is at the border of Kenya and Uganda, and this makes business even better across the two countries.

Hi lenders and the team at large! I am really enjoying being part of this team as a beneficiary. I have stretched my loan for sometime now, and would like to increase my repayment. My business is doing good, though with few challenges which are manageable. Thanks.

Hello Barnabas. You've been on this much lower payment amount for three months now - are you able to adjust to a higher amount yet? When I lent you the money, I didn't expect it to be tied up for five years!
    God bless you,
    Wendy

    Dear lenders,

Thanks you a lot for the loan you funded me. It helped me much. I was able to buy timber and iron sheets. However, the cost exceeded the amount I had which forced me to take additional loan from another source, so I have another soft loan I am servicing. Once I accumulate savings from my profit, I will readjust my repayment upwards. Thanks.

    Dear lenders!
I would like to appreciate so much because before Zidisha, I used to fear taking loans, but I have realized that loans lead to success, especially the comfortably that comes with Zidisha loan. The last loan was used to purchase a new pool table and repair the old one. The pool tables have kept several youths busy, particularly my brother and cousin together with their friends. They are in a position to cater for their daily bread, and also make them come together to listen to advice especially on drug abuse. Good news is that they are changing behavior. The income has enabled me to add more money to it and now I have purchased a taxi, and have also started constructing a rental house. Since I bought the new pool table, my income doubled to approximately Kshs. 15000 a month.
