About Me
Hello, My name is Esther and I am 26 years old. I was born in Rift valley province in Kenya, Currently Nakuru county on the outskirts of Menengai Crater.
Mine was a rural livelihood until I did my primary exams and moved to Nakuru town to live with my aunt who was an accomplished dressmaker. It was at my aunt's place that i grew an interest in tailoring and dressmaking.
An employee of my aunt encouraged me to train in the course and since my aunt was not for the idea, the employee would give me lessons when aunt was away.
I was able to convince my parents to cater for my training fee and I joined a place where young girls were being taught the skills. My training was on and off since I sometimes had to drop out as my parents raised money and it really took me a long time to master the skills.
A cousin bought a sewing machine for me after i finished training and I started little repair work for my neighbours.
I got married shortly after and again i had to give up my tailoring for a time. Later, my husband encouraged me to restart my business and I have been doing it now for close to two years.
We have two kids and the first born is in school and hopefully the other will join next year.
My Business
My business mainly involves repair work, making new clothes especially for young girls and making school uniforms. My weekly income is about Kshs. 2500 to 3000. School uniforms are especially in high demand since I live in a densely populated area and there are many schools around
My recurring expenses are mostly in buying materials and a bit goes to paying a fee to the local government and the person who stores my equipment for me since I work outdoors.
Although I plough back some of my earnings, the majority goes in assisting in feeding the family.
Loan Proposal
Once I get the loan, I will spend the money in buying new materials for making school uniforms. Right now as we are starting the new year and new term, school uniforms are in high demand and it's becoming hard to meet my customers' demands for lack of inventory.
In future, I hope to buy another sewing machine so that I can employ someone who can help me deal with the increased work load.
