About Me

Dear valued lenders,I was introduced to Zidisha by one Joseph Mwangi. I am glad to have this opportunity to share ideas and experiences with you courtesy of zidisha! Well, I was born in a christian family on 23rd October 1982.I schooled at Tongaren DEB pri. school and later completed secondary education at kibabii high school, Bungoma, Kenya the year 2003. My childhood hobbies were athletics but ended up training as a teacher. Formal employment in Kenya takes years so I ventured in sugarcane business, a business that has maintained my family to date. It wasn't an easy task as being the sole breadwinner I had to struggle and endure a lot. As per luhya customs and traditions, a first born son has a right to land inheritance and is solely responsible for upkeep and good upbringing of his/her siblings. Am now formally employed but I also supplement my salary with income from sugarcane business. My two children have also developed similar interest and I see them emulating me as able business people in future because I have served as their role model

My Business

Apart from teaching at a public school, I concentrate on my sugarcane business. I harvest my one - acre sugarcane plantation after about a year. This business is on high demand at Mumias sugar company in western Kenya(Mumias is one of local sugar-processing companies in Kenya).I actually chose this business because it requires very little input as regards to fertilizer and other expenditures are also minimal. sugarcane itself is food in its raw state and can relieve hunger simply by chewing it. I also chose the business because sometimes I sell them in retail when tractors fail to turn up for harvesting hence am forced to ferry them to the nearest market using my motorcycle (pictured in my comments) . I work hard to supplement my salary. My wife works hard in the plantation to ensure there's enough yield to be harvested by Mumias sugar company tractors. These tractors only harvest once hence am forced to use my motorcycle to transport the canes myself to make ends meet. unfortunately my bike needs some spare parts and full service to enhance better transportation. Typical costs are mainly motorcycle servicing and paying sugarcane harvesters and loaders. I use the income from sugarcane returns to pay school fees, home improvement and also maintain my children and wife

Loan Proposal

I wish to use my loan as follows: 1.Use 30USD to Buy new motorbike helmet which is damaged2. Do full motorcycle service to enhance better transport services(5USD) 3. buy rear Tyre only(20 USD) as most of our roads are impassable during rainy seasons. 4. Use 40USD to pay workers in the farm 5. Use 20USD to pay loaders at the standby tractors . kindly fund my proposal as in case the tractors come when am not prepared then I will be forced to hire more motorbikes and extra workers. God bless you.
