About Me

I was born in our home village, " kagak". I was raised there for a while by my parents. They died when I was seven years old. Am the third born among six kids. I moved to live with my uncle for the rest of those years. I started my education in our village primary school. In 2009 I did my kcpe and passed to high school which I continued to work smart. I also passed but didnt get direct entry to the university . still have an ambition of continuing with education.. Since hardship is part of life while Persuing a goal, I just work smart and hard to achieve them.. I started farming from advice's that I was getting from friends and because it was the best opportunity for me. Most of the youth see farming as a job of old people coz it dirtify people. Am not married and I don't have a child.. I like playing football since I have talent in it. I help those who are needy to achieve in my capacity.

My Business

I grow vegetables, watermelon, onions and tomatoes which I sell to our local market. Most people depend on these for food. I saw this as the best opportunity for me. I get funds from the stuffs I grow and this is what I use to pay for the expenses. I use the profit made to improve my farming and to support those I can help grow in life. I intend to grow these crops on a large scale. Am also striving to have much that can help me grow other crops.

Loan Proposal

Am a small scale farmer who does farming as a business. I produce tomatoes, watermelon, vegetables, butternuts and even onions. But this time, I would like to grow tomatoes on large scale so that I may improve on profit earned from farming. If given a loan, I would rent a land at 80 us dollars, plough it twice at 70 us dollars. Tomatoes seeds will cost me 150 us dollars. Agro chemicals will be bought at 90 us dollars. Since we depend on irrigation, watering will cost 120 us dollars. Stakes that will give tomatoes support will cost 80 us dollars as the rest of the funds will be used for other farm maintenance. I would like to improve on my scale of farming if given a chance and help those who are needy in our area and the community at large. I expect a profit of 80 percent. I would like to thank the zidisha team for the support they have provided to me and I promise to pay back this loan. Thanks.

In a weeks' time he will begging harvesting his tomatoes and his repayment will be in order. Joshua had problem brought about by prolonged rainfall that was never anticipated.

Do you know of farmers around you that do not use chemicals?

    • Joshuoa Otieno    Jan 31, 2018

Thanks.. No. Agro -chemicals are used by all farmers because of the pests and diseases that damages it's growth.

        Joshuoa,

pests and diseases are indeed a big problem when you grow only one sort of crop. I know a few farmers in brazil that do not use chemicals, they also have problems with pests and diseases, but they use other methods to prevent it. One producer keeps certain plants among his rice, those plants keep mosts pests alway.

That may be good but here farmers only use Agro chemicals.. It seems there is still a problem with the technology

I purchased tomatoes seeds and their chemicals. I also used some amount of fund to maintain it through until it's harvest. The purchase increased my level of production and as well as my level of earnings. My earnings has increased by 70 percent. I have used the increase to construct poultry farm. We've achieved to pay for school fees for my younger brothers and sisters. We live happily with our neighbours
