I am a graduate with commerce degree and a 24-year-old Kenyan lady. I was born in a family of four, a setup that has shaped my personality to like working with people and to care for others. I have a strong passion for business and a strong desire to empower women and youth, a dream I believe I will fulfill through my business.
My passion for business can be traced back to as early as high school, when I presented the best business proposal in the Junior Achievement club competition and the divisional level. I am highly environmentally conscious and have taken part in various environmental management programs in various capacities.
Since I was brought up in a male-dominated society, I have also developed a keen interest in empowering the girl child and the less fortunate in the society.
When in my second year in university, I realised there was a serious problem of garbage collection and disposal. This is because waste collection and disposal was then purely the affair of the local authorities. I saw an opportunity in the environment and started a garbage collection and disposal business. The business that started as a clean-up project saw a lot of appreciation, which made me invest more in the business venture.
Currently, the business operates at a cost of USD 700 and generates an after-tax profit of USD 300 on average per month. The business has three full-time employees and 10 casual employees who help in garbage collection. When we acquire the new tools, we anticipate that the number of employees will increase by five.
The vision of the business is to achieve a clean and green environment. To achieve this dream, most proceeds from the business are currently retained to assist in the business operations and expand the business. Currently, I am in the process of acquiring modern and safe waste collection tools and am looking for USD 249. With this fund, I expect the capacity of the business to expand and profit to grow by at least 20% per month. Later, I plan to diversify the business of waste recycling.
With the first loan, I was able to acquire safety equipment for my garbage collection, and this made our collection capacity improve greatly.
I am this time applying for a loan to acquire 10 wheelbarrows and 10 spades for my waste collection business. A wheelbarrow costs around USD 35 while a spade costs USD 5. I therefore require around USD 400 for these tools.
If I get this loan, I will be able to pay for the deposit for the wheelbarrows and the spades from already-identified hardware and be able to repay the remaining installments from the proceeds of the business.
[After] acquiring these tools, I anticipate we will enhance our collection capacity by around 40%, which will improve on our income generation by around 30%. This loan will also help us move towards achieving the vision of the business that is achieving an organized and safe waste disposal within Nakuru County in the next 5 years.
I request for your support to help up realise this dream.
