Lifting Up Her Business

By Betsy Ramser Jaime

‘I am Vicky Rotich. I was born in Bomet county and I hail from there. I am married with three children. I was brought up by a family of six children, four sisters and two brothers. I am the fourth born in my family. I have been a Christian since I was young and now I am an artist. Also I am a choir leader in our church.’

Today, Vicky is a businesswoman and has been operating her business for over four years. She had been saving money from her salary, and was then able to leave her job to start a business of her own. Vicky found success with organizing a fundraising initiative from her church community where she collected funds that she could add to the savings that she had already accumulated.

As a new member of the Zidisha community, joining in 2022, Vicky has already found Zidisha to be the ideal place to secure loans and grow her business. With her first loan of $15 she shared, ‘I will use the loan to expand my business of music, cd selling and memory downloading. I will be grateful for your positive feedback. Regards.’

Since then, she has used loans of $32, $68, and $143 expand her location, do renovations, produce more music, and pay school fees for her children.

Most recently, she described her progress explaining, ‘Thank you very much Zidisha for your support to give us loans to grow our business as small entrepreneurs. I will use the funds to produce new songs and to launch others that are already in the market. And also to take out videos. I will use the loan to buy more CDs for my business. Regards’
