My name is benson mutuma. I was born on 9th january 1995. I was 4 years old when i started my primary education at kijijone Primary School where i completed my primary education in 2008.i joined nkubu high school education and completed my Kenya Secondary Certificate Education 2012.
The main hardship i have encountered after completing high school is the raising of capital to start my agribusiness which was about 51,000 ksh that includes the cost of putting up the farm structures and acquiring hybrid pigs.
The idea came to me when i needed money to look after my grandfather ,he needed medical support which would be readily acquired if i had some income generating project . I started keeping chicken but due to high cost it was not successful and that's when i was introduced to pig farming by a close friend . I sold the rabbits to get capital needed thereafter it has developed into a small scale agribusiness which i intend to expand after acquiring the capital.
My home place has a cool and wet climate which promotes pig farming. the fodder is readily available in the market but have to buy pig feeds since green leaves are not good for pigs.
I want my children to get quality education and have all the resources to see them succeed in life and at no particular time be faced by the challenge i had when my dad got ill.
In my past time i like reading books on business including agribusiness, business and entrepreneurship articles. i also now engage in farming trainings at Kenya research institute which is a few meters from my home and they offer the training free of charge
about three months ago I decided to commercialize the project so as to generate sustenance and savings for my future family and I can say the project has picked well till I lost some pigs about a month ago from an feed poisoning that left me with only four pigs. the resources I had were all channeled to making better pens . this as brought a major set back as the clients are knocking everyday but I cannot sustain their demand. each month I spend around 3000ksh on pig pellets and feeds used to feed them which in turn generates a revenue of about 7000ksh from sales of meat and manure which is used in green houses .
all the money generated from the pigs apart from adding on the stock I save in a three year fixed account from which I plan to build a house.
following my unfortunate encounter with my business i wish to acquire a loan to buy 1 expectant female pig costing about 74 USD . the pig should by three months have young ones and with an average of six young ones i will get total of 10 pigs this will will greatly help to raise the capacity of themanure. it will also improve on the breed quality has chances of in breeding will be minimized and ensure larger amount of pork which is my major source of incomethis will provide me with a monthly revenue increase of about 40 USD which is about 60% . and within the end of year i will be in capacity to supply orders of rabbit meat.
