About Me

My name is Esther B Okemwa, a forty seven year old mother of five children. I was born in Kisii. I am a fifth born among ten siblings. I went to school in Kisiis St. Charles Lwanga High school with a lot of challenges since my father who was the sole bread winner passed on when I was still young. I thank God I managed to complete my O level and I am a trained primary school teacher who has taught for the last 24 years. I have been teaching in a private school for the last eight years ,however in August last I was laid off .I tried to look for employment at that time and did not succeed .My two children are in school and one in the University, two are unemployed after completing their studies in the university. I am a very hard working strong willed person ready to do any work available.so far I have started an egg selling business to continue with educating my children and tending the family. The work is quite challenging since sometimes the eggs break a lot which means I incur a lot of losses. I also coach children on reading privately at a fee which helps in my daily activities. Am married to George Makokha who hails from Busia County in Kenya. He is the first born in a family of ten. He has been taking care of his family since they were orphaned. He works in the catholic mission hospital where much of his work is voluntary services to the community. He gave me the initial fifty thousand shilling which I started the Business with from his savings so that I can be able to assist him to bring up our five children and continue tending the farm to get our daily food. I get my eggs from a renowned farmer in Mois Bridge Eldoret which is about two hundred kilometers from Kisumu where I stay currently and operate my egg Business. I have to travel there every week to get the egg to sell as I continue developing and prep thus will release more profit and to have my own layers this will ease the problem of using transport to and get more eggs for sell .I will have my own farm to keep chicken for layers. My long term objective is to be able to have my layer laying up to one thousand trays of eggs per a week. I feel I can achieve this from the profits that I make currently and a little bit of reinforcement by selling more trays of eggs per week. I sell my eggs on wholesale at two hundred and ninety and retail at three hundred shillings. The profit margin is good, but there are instances when there are way too many breakages that this profit is not realized instead I recover the capital of the goods and start afresh. At the moment, money is a great hindrance to some of these developments. I believe the Zidisha Loan I receive will help me develop and expand my business. `I intend to get an additional thirty crates for sale. This money is very essential in adding a little more profit into what I make now. Zidisha has come at a better time for me. As I have now created a greater clientele since I started this business early in the year. The demand for eggs has now become overwhelming and I was on the verge of not meeting these demands, thanks to Zidisha I may now not disappoint my clients since I will now have constant supply.

My Business

I used an initial fifty thousand shillings to start the Business with from his savings so that I can be able to assist him to bring up our five children and continue tending the farm to get our daily food. I get my eggs from a renowned farmer in Mois Bridge Eldoret which is about two hundred kilometers from Kisumu where I stay currently and operate my egg Business. The profit margin is good, but there are instances when there are way too many breakages that this profit is not realized instead I recover the capital of the goods and start a fresh save half my profits from this business and spend the rest on getting more stocks/ eggs for to grow my business. At the moment, money is a great hindrance to some of these developments. I believe the Zidisha Loan I receive will help me develop and expand my business. `I intend to get an additional thirty crates for sale. This money is very essential in adding a little more profit into what I make now. Zidisha has come at a better time for me.
