My name is Collins Akparibo. I come from a small town call Zebilla, upper east region of ghana.
I started my primary education there, and in my class we were just 5 pupils. There are some days we were just 2 in attendance. My Dad was committed in seeing me go through university education. I used to supplement this little money my Dad gave me for school fees with fish I got from a river 10miles away.
After school I decided to start a fish farming business. Fish is rare commodity in our part of the country. There is a great potential for aquaculture, therefore decided I will get into aquaculture. Fingerlings are purchased from a distance of 850km which makes it difficult for fish farmers.
I therefore saw this as an opportunity to invest in fingerlings production so to supply farmers, and stock my own ponds.
I am a small feed producer, and vegetable farmer. I also operate a mechanical shop.
Fish and poultry feeds and scarce where I live. I got fish feed machine, and a poultry feed machine to produce feed for the community where I live. It is a good business looking at the value. All raw materials are purchase locally and therefore affecting positively local farmers.
The loan is for the purchase of raw materials for feed production. The raw materials are bought from local farmers, implying increase income for local farmers. Part of the money will be used to purchase imputs , ie, fish nets, hapas, etc. There is the need to fence the hatchery to provide security against poaching, which is important for the success of the business
