About Me

I Cecilia Mtsonga is the fifth born in the family of 6. Being the second to last I had challenges of school fees to continue with my higher education after finishing primary education. I joined technical institute and learned dress making. After finishing my course in dressing making I got married and up to now I am a mother of 3 children 2 girls and one boy. I started my small food retailing business in order to support my family, the little money I get from my business together with my husband's income we have been educating our kids, the first born Girl is in college, the second finished his o'level education last year he is waiting for the result and thereafter continue to the next level. The last born concluded primary level and she is expecting to join secondary. my kids have different career ambitions, one wants to become a teacher and the two want to join medical. What is unique about the land and culture here is that traditionally one dies if is a man the wife who is left is being forced to be inherited though is diminishing nowadays. And also the climate is warm all through and it is favourable for coconut trees.
Most my time when am free I spent in singing and travelling.

My Business

I started my business about 10 years ago of selling dry fish. Since then up to now I am doing this business, it is involved only in drying fish by dip frying and then take to the market late in the evening as from 4.00 pm. I buy raw fish from suppliers who buy them in bulky from fishermen and keep them in their cold houses.
I chose to sell fish because the demand of fish was high and the who are selling are few, also people use fish to supplement with vegetables because supplies of vegetable is scarce since the climate is hot here and it is not commonly cultivated.
If I talk of costs I consider the amount of stock I buy at a particular time like now I am sold fish in terms of Kilograms; 1kg is costing kshs.150 and then I buy firewood and cooking oil at kshs.400 and daily tax of ksh. 20. In order to satisfy my customer I buy 20kg of fish at a total cost of kshs.3000.
After selling the whole lot of fish I get kshs. 5500, so when subract the costs and miscellineous I remain with a net profit of Kshs.2000

Loan Proposal

As I have stated earlier from my first loan I have managed to succeed in many things but to highlight few I managed to admit my daughter in secondary which I didnt expect because the cost of starting is very expensive. The remaining amount I added to my fish stock and up to now it is doing well. Now this loan I am applying for I want to start cultivating cassava and sweet potatoes because our soil is very favourable and the demand is very high compared to the supply which is low. Since we are expect a good rain this season I want to do faster to prepare the land and as the rain start I plant. Besides selling, cassava and potatoes is very stable food for the family and they take very short duration to harvest. 80% of this loan I will put to cassava and sweet potato project and 20% I put into business and home miscellaneous needs and improvements.
I am very thankful for your generous support.
Cecilia.
