I am John Odundo, I am a male Kenyan citizen aged 35 years old. I am the 2nd born in a family of 6 (1 girl and 5 boys). I was brought up from a humble background, my father was a fisherman and my mother was a fish monger (trading on fish).
My parents were religious and they ensured that their children observe Christian rituals. We were disciplined and going to school was a priority. I joined public primary school and sat for my KCPE in 1988. However, I did not proceed to High School due to lack of funds to support my secondary education.
I got married in the the year 2007, once I got married, I and my wife decided to venture into horticultural business. I like fresh organically - grown vegetables and I do plant trees in my farm to help in improving forest cover in order to combat climate change and de-forestration.
I have 3 children and the 1st born is in class four and the last born is in his 3rd year of school.
I like playing local football and visiting fellow farmers to share experience and learn new techniques of farming.
I am involved in organic farming practice in my small-scale horticultural food farm in Mbita where I grow onions, tomatoes, kales, vegetables and maize for both my family consumption and surplus for sale. I started this business two years ago, the business has been doing so well and I have started to get a very good and reliable clients base.
My farm is multi-purpose as I keep a small indigenous tree nursery that I tender trees and seedlings of different varieties for afforestation and landscaping to various sectors including local public primary schools and churches. During the rainy seasons I normally go round to asses the progress of my goods at various places
From my farm, I harvest upto 100pcs of tomatoes on average per day . This amounts to a monthly income of KES 13,000. I have many customers because I have the best of what they need. I put a lot of effort in my work, I do sell non-GMO foods which are in great demand. I will repay the loan in good time and access more loans from ZIDISHA lenders.
I am seeking a loan of KES 14,928 to enable me purchase the following items;
-Irrigation horse pipes =US$30
-Seedlings = US$30
-Pesticides and insecticides =US$20
-Fertilizers =US$30
-Hire an additional worker =$20
This will enable me to expand on my business as well as creating employment to unemployed youths in my village.
With the improved seedlings, I expect my harvest to double this season and farm returns to skyrocket. The project profit increase of 30% will be used to repay the loan and meet my family basic needs.
