I am Caroline Auma Ochieng born in 1983 in Karachuonyo next to Kendu Bay town in Homa Bay county. I went to Gendia primary and did my kcpe examination in 1994. I failed and got poor grade which made it hard for me to join secondary education. I got married in 1998 and God the creator blessed me with four children, three boys and a girl. The first child is a girl who is in secondary school form two and in future she would like to be a teacher, the second child is a boy who is in primary school class seven and he is hoping to be a doctor, the third child is in class four and he would like to be also a doctor in future and the last is in class two and he would like to be a police officer. In Ndiru East kagan, there is adequate rainfall which is good for agricultural activities eg.farming, cattle keeping, poultry and suitable for business. Our village borders Kisii community which has undulating features which attacks domestic and foreign tourists. In the course of time, my family increased and required a lot of food, good clothes, school fee and other needs which made me to start a small business of roasting maize, ground nuts and selling of beverages like coffee and milk tea next to construction sites for workers to gain profit.During my free time, I goes to church, read bible, magazines and novels.
My husband had little income which could not cater for the family needs. He gave me KES 500/= plus little savings I had,I started this business of roasting maize and selling hot coffee to obtain profit. It is seven months since I began this business. With the income I got and savings of my husband helped us to pay secondary school fee, primary school fee for the small children, improving family standard, purchase of clothes, settling of various business and family bills, improving business, building of nice shelters for family members and catering of other secondary family and business requirements. This business is always good mostly in the afternoon and evening hours as there is always rush time.
I will buy a quarter sack of charcoal costing kes 200/=,green maize to be roasted costing kes 400/=,ground nuts costing kes 300/= and bunch of tea leaves, 4 packets coffee sachets and a knife costing kes 200/=.
