Who is Margaret Julliet Wambui (MJ)?

I am a single mother of two, who I dearly treasure – Andie (Senior Jewel - SJ) and Alain (Junior Jewel – JJ).

The two jewels give me the gist of fighting a winning battle in this life. Both of them aspire to be pilots and am out to support their dreams. As I fight the good fight of faith, my desire is to leave a worthwhile legacy for them and, I will not, for one repulse, give up the purpose that I resolved to effect. Yes, no chance, no destiny, no fate, will hinder my firm resolve as I am determined to reach beyond the eagle heights for their sake.

My career history
I was in the logistics industry for over 15 years, gaining a rich experience in management. I intend to apply the gained experience and knowledge in my new ventures.

My Business

I enjoy tendering my poultry made up of indigenous chicken. My dream of having my project being a household name still holds. There is no relenting, no matter what. I have not achieved my target but I will keep forging on until I reach my mark. The main challenge has been the lack of brooding within the flock. That is why I intend to get a kerosene incubator. This will facilitate constant hatching of chicks even when the hens do not brood.
With a healthy flock of KARI improved, there will be no struggle penetrating the market. I already have a ready market but I would like to venture further.

Assets
 My poultry basket currently carries 15 hens, 2 cockerels, and 50 chicks.
 The shop has a stock of around 25,000/= face value and fixed assets worth 25,000/=. These include the shop fixtures, the weighing tools, display box, and others
 A plot that is pending development measures 50x50m

Loan Proposal

Poultry business can be befitting if the breed reared gains weight as first as possible. One of the reasons why, say chicken, especially the indigenous type, do not seem to gain weight is because of inbreeding. In-breeding can negatively affect the sales of poultry since the sizes of the eggs as well as the weight of the chicken sold for meat may not be appealing.

In which case it is essential to change the cockrels when need calls to avoid inbreeding. I would like to replace the cockrels that I already have to allow for proper breeding and I get quality chicken. The market I am targeting, hotels, will go for the weight. Therefore I have to take utmost care to produce the required quality. As for the eggs, the right size will comfortably fetch me Kshs. 750/= ($ 8.5.-) per tray.

In introducing the choice cockerels I will not have to buy incubation eggs that I am not sure of the breed type. And secondly, I will not struggle to sell the chicken simply because the size of the chicken does not match with the price. If I am selling a 2½ month chicken it should be worth its value. As for the chicks the market is quite selective of the breed and just any chick will not sell. So again with the choice cockerels I will be assured of sellable day-old chicks at Kshs. 120/=

I believe with the loan from Zidisha I will zidisha my quality by buying 2 choice cockrels each going for around 1000/= ($11.-) and the balance will be used to buy vaccines (against newcastle, fowl typhoid and fowl pox) for the chicken. I appreciate being a part of the Zidisha family and look forward to making good of being a family member.
