I am Frederick Dartey from Berekum. I started my school at Kintampo for both junior high school and senior high school, respectively. When we sat for west Africa examination, during integrated science and mathematics, some students were caught with foreign materials. Due to that reason, our papers were cancelled. To get money and register for another set of exams became a problem for me since my father is a pensioner and the money is not sufficient. I was employed by my uncle. The money I got from my uncle was used for poultry production because I realized that I have passion for it and I offered agricultural science in my senior high school. I entered into this business because of its high demand. Some people come for it in on Friday and the weekend due to the marriage ceremonies that are taking place to serve visitors and other people there. Some also are used for domestic consumption too.
I provide chicken and eggs. For poultry production, if you are able to feed your poultry well, there is a high yield of eggs. If you can get more eggs, you can use it to bear your costs and then when you sell them, all the profit will become yours. Poultry production is a very good business because the cost of a crate of eggs is $6 to $7, depending on the size of it. In fact, I can get about more than 15 crates depending on the weather conditions; if they feed well on that day, then the next day they lay more.
I will use the loan to buy more of the poultry feed. Now the cost of the maize is highly priced and I have decided to buy more and keep it in place so that when it becomes scarce I can still lay my hands on it to get the required number of feed for my poultry. Now the cost of one bag of maize is $25 and I have plans to buy eight.
