Hello family! My name in Millicent Anyika. a professional agricultural economist.
i grew up in kitale, the bread basket of kenya. i grew up mainly in the farm, attended a local primary and secondary school, later passed well and offered a space to study, Bsc(agriculture) at egerton univeristy,in Nakuru county.
Normallly in rural areas ,there were no roads, so i realy struggled getting to school.
After graduation, i didnt make it to get formal employment, and decided to go back to my rural home, and do some local farming, i later realised the only plant being farmed here is maize, and i got the idea to change the whole story. I inherited 5 acres of land from my grandparents which i decided to convert and use it for horticulture farming, that i willl sale in nearby kitale town and maybe Eldoret.
I do horticulure farming, i made a small permanent structure near the tarmac that i sell to sell my produce. I also have an ongoing project where i am designing an eatery where i will be selling fresh produce from my farm.
in my farm, i have, spinach, collard greens, greeenand red capsicums, french beans, starwberries, cabbages, red cabbages, and carrots.
i also have a small structure that i use for pig farming
My goods are now high in demand, people need to eat, and they cant eat only maize(corn), they need a balanced diet and that i what i am providing,
I chose agriculture since its the backbone of kenyas economy, i will feed the nation and earn in the process.
my typical costs include buying seeds and my revenue come from selling my produce.
i use my profit to re invest back in my farm, as i have plans to buy an extra acre of land that i will use for dairy farming
I intend to purchase 11 PACKETS of spinach seeds.
I packet costs 300ksh, i will purchase 11 packets of 10g each.
A si have opened a small eatery at the shopping center, i will save alot by growing my own vegetables that i will cook for my customers.
i purchase 500g of spinach at 100ksh (0.9usd), i will save alot when i get the prodyce from my farm.
Also, i will be able to sell the surplus, and re invest the profit.
