I am Saumu Bakari a last born in a family of three. I live in Thika, Kiambu County, Kenya. I have a diploma in Secretarial Studies. After several years of employment, my passion for business led me into selling clothes and shoes. I began selling online until I was able to open a small shop within Majengo Estate just near where I reside. I open all weekdays and Saturdays from 9 am to 8 pm. The business has enabled me to take care of my family. I am happy to have heard about Zidisha which is a noble idea to help small scale entrepreneurs like myself.
After three years of operating a completely online business I was able to gather enough funds to open a small shop within my locality. I set up shop two years ago and incorporated clothes into the shoes I was selling before. I get my stock from Eastleigh and Kamukunji areas in Nairobi City. I restock weekly to ensure a wide variety for my customers to choose from. The location of my business in close proximity to hostels for ladies attending colleges within my areas makes it easy for them to access the shop, there are also a lot of people passing by since it is a busy street. I still sell online and I am able to deliver to my online customers punctually and with the desired varieties. On a good day I am able to make a profit of Ksh.1,200.
I intend to use the $147 I am requesting for to increase my stock and to make a nice signboard to market my shop. I intend to use 50% of the total to stock clothes, 40% to stock shoes and the remaining 10% to make an eye-catching signboard. I believe with my increased stock which will offer new and existing customers a wide variety to choose from and the signboard directing more clients to my premises, i will be able to achieve my growth plan. I have faith that you will consider my proposal favorably. Thank you in advance.
