my name is George Okoyo Juma. i was born in Nakuru and raised in a children' s home where i was educated in and still live. i attended my primary education in Nakuru grassland primary school where i passed with flying colors after my eight years of study and was sponsored for high school education at Menengai high school. in my high school is where i developed my strong passion for agriculture and farming and i always dreamed of becoming a successful farmer. I was unable to continue with higher education because i could not find a sponsor for my university education. due to the challenge,i thought of my passion for farming as an opportunity to venture into a successful business. i seeked employment in a nearby well known farm where i am employed to date . i have three children who also admire farming a lot. they accompany me to my work place at times.
i work in Oldorao farm as an assistant farm manager where we keep poultry such as chicken and duck. We offer poultry meat for sale and we also sell eggs.
The goods that i offer to people are on very high demand because we take poultry in bulk to hotels where they fry, cook and sell to people as food. We also do deliver of eggs to shop at wholesale prices where they sell to people.
i choose this business following my outstanding passion for agriculture and also to help me sustain my living and support my three children in school and also give back to the children's home where i grew up.
I am paid on commission basis per the number of chicken that i sell per day and also the number of crate of eggs that i deliver per day. In a good day my commission can tally up to 80 Us dollars per day.
i use the profits that i generate to educate my children and also support one child that i adapted from the children home where i grew up. i am also making savings to start my own Poultry Selling Business
Granted the loan that is 50 Us dollars, i will add with my personal savings of 550 Us dollars summing it up to 600 Us dollars which is the required amount by the constitution of agricultural laws to start an average poultry farm. i will use that money in the following way; 200 Us dollars for buying chicks and ducks. 100 Us dollars for buying grown chicken ,100 Us dollars buying grown ducks , 50 Us dollars leasing the premise from the owner, 50 Us dollars for buying food for the poultry birds that i will have already acquired, 30 Us dollars for acquiring licence to operate the farm,50 Us dollars building the chicken houses and the duck houses and fitting electricity in the small duck and chicken rooms.
having my own business will benefit many people in my society. it would create employment opportunities to many people from the children's home where i was raised, this will help them to meet their needs because they will have money of their own.i will also offer farming training on any interested individuals which will earn me extra income and also impact positively on the trainees.
i expect my profit to increase significantly to around 140 Us dollars per day which is a good figure.it will enable me to comfortably meet my family's needs and my other personal projects.
