As a single mother, I have had my share of challenges in life. My childhood was not much of a challenge but life took a turn when my dad retired and begun drinking, a problem that has affected the whole family. I had hopes of attending college but due to those circumstances, I was not able to. I did casual jobs for some time and after realizing it could not pay for all the needs, including catering for my child and siblings I begun selling clothes. My grandfather gave me a few stems of tea to practice tea farming after seeing the challenges I was facing. I saved some money from the income I got from tea farming ans started selling clothes.
I am involved in tea farming as well as selling clothes to earn a living and educate my daughter. The income from tea farming is about $300 (Ks30,000) annually while my clothes business brings about $550 (Ks80,000). Clothes are basic needs and since I have established a bank of customers, the business is viable for me. I chose this business because of my experience and I am a good communicator. I use the profits to grow the business as well as to pay fees for my child, buy food and other basic needs, and home improvement.
I intend to use the money to pay school fees for my child, and hence cushion my business from withdraw. The stock of my clothes shop is not large and withdrawing money meant for replenishing the stock might affect my business negatively. I am certain I will pay the loan from my income.
