my life as a child was very difficult as schools were far away and I ahd to walk long distnaces just to get to school, I went to butere primary school for my primary education and Butere girls for m secondary education, and proceeded to sangalo institute where I studied farm management.
I looked for a white collar job for a year and I was not lucky to get one . Life become very hard , i decided to try my hand in horticulture farming, i took a loan from my youth group and invested in leasing land and land preparation. I grew vegetables in the piece of land and the vegetables did very well. I was able to make sells and repaid the loan ,and I have never looked back since then, I have leased more land and farming is my full time job.
The people from our land has various cultures, women are thought by their aunts how to manage houses and boys undergo circumcision as a right of passage from childhood to adulthood, however it must be done traditionally for a man to be man enough.
I love watching documentaries, playing basketball and making new friends . I also take time to join other members of the community and the church in social work, such as cleaning the town and visiting the sick.
I am a small scale farmer and grow vegetables like cabbages, kale's,tomatoes, and water melon fruits that I sell to my customers. I always diversify my crops to protect me against losses in case of crop failure or market glut.
The demand for vegetables is high through out the year due to growing population and increasing number of vegetarians.
I choose farming business because I had training on farm management and I understood the market structure and trends.
my costs per month are $200-$250 on average and my income from sales are average $400-$500 per month.
I use the money to help my sister get good education through fees payment, helping my aging parents and saving for reinvestment.
